small group of engatives

Hmm, do you think there are enough clues to figure out the location?
Several of the CDs from this era list Mom's Good Food at 5059 Eagle Rock Boulevard with Eagle Rock Shoe Repairs (not Don's) next door at 5057 and a TV/Appliance store at 5055.
None of the CDs I looked at show an auto parts store on the other side (the 1963 CD has the Ted Miller [Photographic] Studios at 5061 Eagle Rock Boulevard). Historic Aerials shows
buildings with a similar footprint at this location in 1964, but there's a Shell gas station there today.

One of the other images on ebay shows an envelope that mentions car 2501 in Eagle Rock.

The arrows appear to be inlaid terracotta so they were probably made when the building was under construction.

That's why I'm baffled.

I'm sticking with my original assertion that Mom's Good Food was at 5059 Eagle Rock Boulevard, and the buildings on that block were demolished at a date unknown to make way for a gas station. It's difficult to tell the exact date because the aerials are a bit blurry, but Eagle Rock Shoe Repairs' final appearance in the CDs seems to be 1969, and the addresses don't appear after that.

To me, the brickwork on 5037 Eagle Rock Boulevard is not a match for e_r's photo.

Below, the aerial on the left is from 1952. I've marked the block that I think we're looking at.

This architectural style seems to have been popular in Eagle Rock. We've seen 5039 and 5057 Eagle Rock Blvd., here's 5121 N. Eagle Rock Blvd., of the same ilk:

While poking around Eagle Rock for the above purposes, I ran across this interesting structure currently at 1659 Colorado Blvd.:

gsv

This was a gas station, indeed apparently the oldest gas station structure now in the L.A. area, dating to 1919, and originally located on Spring St. in DTLA, taking my information from the Eagle Rock Valley Historical Society at https://www.eaglerockhistory.org/gallery/people-places-and-blimps/, about halfway down.

I'm wondering if we can figure out its original location on Spring St.

The demo permits for 5059 and the adjoining stores are dated May 1971.

Hopefully not to confuse the issue, but the "1963" reference in the Ebay posting is a bit misleading. The photo of LATL 2501 was taken during a fantrip held on Sunday, May 4, 1952. The car was spotted close to the intersection at Colorado Blvd. (i.e., within a car length or two), as that point was the end of the 5 Line at that time.

FWIW, the photo of LAMTA 3107 shows it making the turn from eastbound Monroe St. onto southbound Vermont Ave. in regular service. Based on the barely visible license plate of the car northbound on Vermont, the photo dates from 1963. LACC is just out of the frame to the left. The apartment building on the right remains.

A new Mystery location.

Here's a negative (from a different group of negatives) listed on eBay

eBay

If you closely there's a pretty good clue.

The address on the permit for where the gas station moved from in December 1931 is 1756 N. Spring St.

That was the address for the Standard Oil Company's sales office at the time.

rescarta.lapl.org

The sales office had moved the short distance from 1727 N. Spring St. (seen here) where it was for a good deal of the 1920s.

Right across the street from there was a Standard Oil service station at 1722 N. Spring St.

It's first appearance in the directories is 1920 - so maybe newly constructed in 1919 and could fit the story.

rescarta.lapl.org

It was next door to Standard Oil's garage facility at 1726 N. Spring St. That facility was where decommissioned stations were stored.

Here's one being put into storage there in June 1931 from 2743 W. Pico Blvd. That one I think dated from 1923.

Looking for historic photos of building on NE corner of Ord and North Spring

Long ago I read about an old multistory hotel originally constructed at the above location in the 1880s and which had at least two, but maybe even three or four stories, in addition to three decorative towers in the Victorian style. Later, most likely after an earthquake, the upper stories were removed along with the towers, leaving the more modest but still obviously old building that exists on the site today. I forgot where the building was, but now I've found it again and it stands at Ord and North Spring:

The county assessor's PAIS still indicates an original build date of 1880 for this building, and from the Baist map I can confirm that a hotel was still in operation on the site in 1921, and a Sanborn map from around the turn of the last century confirms the existence of three towers, one at the corner and the other two at the west and north ends of the street fronts, facing Ord and Spring, respectively.

Now I just need to find a photo, and this is my problem. Although I remember seeing a photo of a hotel matching this description in the past, I don't remember where I found it or how I came across it. I wasn't looking for it specifically at the time, and now I simply can't seem to find the photo to save my life. Finding any 19th or early 20th century photos of anything this far north of the Plaza is maddeningly difficult, as many of us here know. And I've almost gotten to the point where I don't want to try yet another Google search which will only sluice me to the usual chestnuts like the Avila Adobe and the Bradbury Building. Or to the commercial "blocks" erected by dry goods merchants and bankers.

Does anyone know a good source that lets you search for photos by specific neighborhoods? Or on an interactive map?

ETA: Currently I believe there is a bar there, using the address 701 N. Spring.

Here is the Clinton Block building (CIRCLED IN PINK) from Google Street View. I used the view from 2009 because it's the best view on the site (not obscured by trees, buses, delivery trucks, etc):

And here is the same view from the 1974 Jack Nicholson movie, Chinatown (note red arrow pointing to the same sign in both images):

In 1974, the Clinton Block building appears to be 2 (or 2.5?) stories tall...

Movie screenshots from Chinatown 4k Blu-Ray

.

Today we have a cyanotype mystery location.

eBay

And here it is a bit LARGER.

And here's what the seller has to say about it.

I did a rudimentary search & there were (perhaps are?) 'Botsfords' in the Los Angeles area but I didn't find any department store.

example

1906 city directory / LAPL

Postsript

Go HERE to see a photograph of Wm. Botford's mansion.
