How good is your source?
I remember when the old Delux building was sold, that there were some smaller vacant parcels around it that sold as well. We were speculating that a developer could be planning a project on the combined lots. All together it's a good sized lot.

All Al photos on their Instagram. They're still in the hiring stage.

There was a lot of discussion some time back about that electrical sub station. It's a real eyesore, and extremely out of place. Apparently they can be relocated, but I'm not too sure that NB Power would be inclined to do so - I imagine it would be costly.

However, if they did move it, there'd be another prime lot open for development. The lot extends to the corner, so could be accessed from Lutz Street. I'd love to see it gone!

I wonder if there is a way to hide it or make it less noticeable rather than just moving it?

Nice pics Leroy, seriously!

Does this photo look like a Moncton streetscape???

Somebody who has not visited this neighbourhood in the last 10 years would be in shock! And, with work now started on the Gateway Towers, the transmogrification of this neighbourhood into a truly dense urban environment will be well and truly underway.

Imagine now a few more buildings on that street similar to Seville’s 5 floors to 8 creating a nice wall of buildings. Ground levels shops, maybe a bit of different designs to each building.

The old Tim Horton's property that Lafford purchased is close by. It's somewhat unique in that it has a frontage on both Waterloo & Albert Streets. It'll be interesting to see what he does with it. I imagine it will be another great project, and will stretch this density cluster a bit farther westward.

Yes, I assume we will see that project announced midway through his next development across from the three sisters.

Anyone know why the sidewalk in front of Subway Block is closed? Saw some kind of lift in front of it last week but nothing since.

Part of the facade had separated from the building. They removed the pieces but I think the rest is a little suspect and requires mitigation of some type.

Two businesses moving to St. George Street this year
Moncton's LaRouère Chocolat and Taj Mahal will both relocate to St. George Street this fall
Author of the article - Payge Woodard
Published Sep 07, 2025 • Last updated 5 hours ago • 3 minute read
https://tj.news/moncton-miramichi/two-bu...year?itm_source=times-transcript-moncton (paywall)

Both of these business moves have already been discussed on SSP, but the T&T article fleshes things out a bit:

Quote:
LaRouère Chocolat is making the move to a new location on St. George Street. The new space at 329 St. George will give people a peek behind the curtain.

“There will be a big window so people will be able to look back there and see what’s happening,” he said.

The new location will also mean greater visibility. Cormier said they often hear from people that they weren’t aware of their home base on Weldon. The move will also give them room to expand their boutique and cafe. Cormier said they’ve renovated the former bike shop to include a window bar that will have nearly as many seats as their current shop. Seated at the bar or one of the new space’s other tables, customers can try an expanded cafe menu that will feature hot chocolates, coffee, and pastries.

A move to St. George will also mean bigger things for another Moncton business. Steven Singh, manager of Taj Mahal, said the Indian restaurant will open in the former Deluxe French Fries location on Saint George this fall.

Singh said while it feels bittersweet to leave the spot they’ve called home since his father opened the restaurant in 2003, the new space has allowed them to create a kitchen that’s around five times the size of their current spot.

“That’s the biggest reason for the move,” he said. “The wonderful kitchen staff literally have to do a ballet on busy nights to not step on each other’s toes.”

They expect the restaurant to open at the new location in November for take-out orders only, with its dining room opening later this year or in early 2026.

I absolutely love the way the streetscape looks with the new jemmy gourmet opened at three sisters. From certain angles it suddenly does not look like Moncton. Having sidewalk patios is such a small but impactful thing.

Walking by the Gateway Towers this morning, there looked to be at least 10 balconies with furniture on them, and probably more units leased with no furniture on their balconies. And that was just on the front side of the building. So it appears as though this building will fill up relatively quickly.

I think that the junction developers would have been fine if they would have started their next phase right after they finished Tannery north. But I guess they really want a hotel, so maybe they don't have that aspect nailed down yet. I believe that combo building à la 55 Queen would be a cost-effective use of land. Ground floor commercial, hotel, and rental units above.

But alas we'll be waiting a while before we see anything happening at the Junction.

I presume you mean Westgate.

The similarity in the name of this building to the (soon to be built) Gateway Towers is most frustrating. It has slipped me up too.

I am pleasantly surprised at how smoothly the Westgate Building has been built. Not only are there tenants already moved in, but they also have their first commercial tenant too (a Pilates studio).
