Smokey AF here Sunday-yesterday.

Nice to have the real heatwave done and back to semi-normal temps, but a nice bit of warmth coming back end of week.

22C in Moncton at 11 AM, and, as usual, sunny. The drought continues. A high of 26C is expected later this afternoon.

Fine... If you insist.

Okay here it is... My butchered attempt at a snake's face.

Cool idea though. Glad you put me onto this. We'll see in two weekends if it's grown or if it's even still there.

A few other additions to the collection. And new method unlocked... water marbling. Daughter happened to get it for her birthday.

And interesting observation for my tarp weights. All three mornings two were soaked with morning dew but the other beside it holding down the other corner of the tarp were not affected.

Some big rocks in their natural habitat. Explored some more beaches. One of them had a combo of clay and sand right at the shore. My daughter stepped forward and her leg went down almost to the knee. I did the same to try it out and went down pretty far. I put an abandoned size 14 croc in there as a hazard marker. Several years ago I was walking in the shallow creek behind cottage and one foot went down to the knee. Lost my favourite sandalds.

Saturday was windy and so unpleasant at the beach. Next two days were very nice.

Mushroom harvest way down this year due to the drought. But my MIL is like a water diviner, but for mushrooms. Her fungi senses direct her to places no one else would know to go (private property without permission, but so expansive that the owner has no idea). These two batches were found in the exact same spot one day apart despite no rain occurring in between.

New tool in the arsenal of wood splitting tools. Bought it for under half price from some guy on facebook. Hopefully lasts for quite a while.

Insects definitely still out in force. And my daughter got stung on her ankle while on the hammock. So you know it was gonna be blood bath after we patched her up. They also ruined a couple of our drinks. The other insects that eat dead insects are having a feast right now. There must be a good 200 bee/wasp carcasses on the ground right now that still need to be scavenged. You're welcome.

40.0 in Lytton today.

All time September high for BC, and tied for all time Canadian high for September.

Also 39 in Ashcroft.

Also, here are the August 2025 stats for Canada.

Osoyoos had one afternoon that only reached 25.

So through July and August only one day wasn't a pool day.

26C with a humidex of 28 and sunny. Gorgeous. What's up with the dryness, dewpoint was briefly below 10C this afternoon. This should be close to peak humidity time with bodies of water warm, vegetation still pretty active.

Low of 16C this morning.

The warmspot was Lytton, BC at 40.0C. Tied the Canadian September all-time. And new BC monthly record.

The warmest low was Summerland, BC at 18.8C.

Heat north of the 50th parallel in September has nothing to do with what you would experience in June/July/mid August.

Lytton only had 7 hours above 30C. And it's below 30C now that the sun has set.
Also warmed up above 20C only after 9AM.

Don't get me wrong, fire risk is there but it's definitely not as extreme as you would think it is for a 40C high at this time of the year.

Well, to be fair, at 10pm the temperature is still 27.4, so its not as if it gets cold after sundown in Lytton even during a September heatwave, and last night was only 5 hours below 20, and even then the official low was 17.0, so still pretty mild for September in Canada. Its not like Lytton dips down to near freezing or something during the night.

Yeah, if it were June or July the low would have likely been above 20 on such a hot afternoon day, but a high of 40.0 with a low of 17.0 its still pretty intense for Canada in September.

21C and mostly sunny in Moncton at 11 AM, going up to 26C this afternoon.

We exceeded our expected daily high yesterday. It got up to 29C. It still feels like summer out.

I haven't mowed my lawn in about six weeks because of the drought. Despite this, my lawn remains halfways green. This is because I have so many trees on my property the lawn remains shaded.

Long range forecast is for continued sun and dry weather, This is important as my youngest son is getting married in Halifax on Saturday. They expect to do wedding photos in the Public Gardens.

Smoky and gross again. Supposed to hit 30 today but I doubt it will with this nasty haze...

No one is disputing how impressive the heat is. I was replying to the message saying it could burst into flames referring to June 2021.
With 3 hours less sunshine now than in late June the fire risk is not that extreme. Still very high but the sun angle at this time of the year matters.

After a smoke-free summer, Metro Vancouver is getting its first real taste of it this year. Very smoky out there. I can't see the North Shore mountains from Mount Pleasant.

This is the first day of noticeable smoke with odor in Vancouver this year, sunny though, varying visibility, about 25°C, humidex 30+, air quality "9" high risk.
