That’s a decent number of weekly flights to Mexico overall

And does this make YVR Flair’s largest base this winter?

No, YYZ is by far the biggest base now

Total number of peak weekly flights:

YYZ 140
YVR 99
YYC 52
YEG 52
YXX 38
YHZ 20
YWG 12
YKF 8
YLW 4

Regarding flights to Mexico from YVR, naturally Mexico City gets the most, being a capital and a colossal one, Cancun is almost a mega-resort, Guadalajara has its attractions, and there are seasonal flights to resorts.
/// But one city that never gets mention is Monterrey, which is a major industria and financial centre in its own right, connected nonstop east to Madrid and over the date line to Seoul. (wiki)
And it alreasy has YYZ as its first and only Canadian destination. There are many in the USA, and of course to the Caribbean-central Latin America region including within Mexico itself. /// The
"connectedness" of a city and airport are testimony to its influence and importance. Under current economic shifts, MTY might be considered a destination for YVR. One can hope.

For anyone interested, the wikipedia link about Monterrey is below.

Thanks. Certainly the largest in Western Canada then - pretty much as big as YYC / YEG combined.

To be cheeky - If you add in YXX then the lower mainland area so close to YYZ

So much for YEG being their big “hub”

With the recent purchase of 67 new Boeing jets -> 60 737 MAX 10s and seven 789 Dreamliners. that should supply enough new aircraft for new routes, not only for YYC, but maybe YVR, as well.
I wonder if they have any new routes planned out of YVR. YYC is their fortress hub, but the YVR area market is twice the size. It will be interesting to see what unfolds.

I feel like if Westjet wanted to expand out of YVR, it would be for Asia/Oceania routes as they would be a bit challenging to operate out of YYC.

ZG further increase YVR-NRT, adding Wed flight for the full season, and Tues/Thurs for part of the latter half of the season from Jan.

Overall schedule:
Oct26-Nov1 - 6x weekly x2
Nov2-Nov11 - 4x weekly x247
Nov12-Jan10 - 6x weekly x2
Jan11-Feb10 - 5x weekly x27
Feb11-Mar11 - 6x weekly x7
Mar12-Mar28 - 4x weekly x247

I guess low-cost carriers and F8 and ZG all set their schedule on week by week basis to get the capacity just right?

That's a doubling of capacity from the initially filed 3 weekly, and a healthy increase from 4 weekly in 2024

^ the interest in YVR from foreign airlines certainly isn’t abating

Meanwhile just saw this article. A good description of what’s been going on at YVR

Vancouver International Airport on track for record-breaking year, partly from resurgence in China traffic

https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/vancouve...vr-asia-pacific-china-rebound-statistics

There’s an excellent chart comparing Chinese routes from 2025 to 2019. HKG has fully recovered but mainland China still about only 50%

That chart seems a bit off. I haven't seen anything about 3x to Nanjing on China Eastern, and they have it at 0 in 2019 when it was 4. Seems like they got that column backwards.

Also pretty sure Shenzhen is only 1x PW.

And the source is the VAA! I don’t think China Eastern would even have the rights yet anyway. Guess it just shows even though inroads are being made still a long way to go!

Flair release spring/summer schedule until early July

YVR-YYC 32x weekly
YVR-YYZ 25x weekly
YVR-YEG 23x weekly
YVR-YWG 7x weekly
YVR-LAX 4x weekly
YVR-SFO 4x weekly
YVR-GDL 4x weekly

Total 99x weekly

Currently no YXU, YKF, and MEX scheduled, but there's still room to add some red-eye flights (11x weekly in total).

YVR base will operate all YYC flights, 10 of 25 YYZ flights, and 21 of 23 YEG flights.

Maybe the source is correct, they just fill in the wrong column.

Some places list YVR as a WS hub, others as just a focus city. Anybody know?

WS WestJet’s main hub in Canada is Calgary YYC , it’s where they base all of its 7 Boeing 787’s fleet of planes ✈️ used on international flights departing from YYC & majority of the Boeing 737 fleet.

While Vancouver YVR / Toronto YYZ are secondary hubs for WS , with mainly Domestic,US, Mexico/ Sun destinations flights & with (limited Internationally long haul).

Yawn.
In term of resource needed, a daily year-round is equivalent of 4 of those summer/winter-seasonal sub-daily flights that is announced today. Long flight to SE Asia requires even more. The only thing comparable today is the year-round 4x weekly YYZ-PVG.

The last long-haul announcements out of YVR before this was year-round MNL and increase/resume daily year-round YVR-PVG/PEK (I know... PEK ended up never being daily after the first few weeks, but it's still year round). This is equivalent to about 8 of those seasonal European destinations.

Just for a comparison.. with those long list of long-haul destinations WS added out of YYC, they have 7x 789. With how "little" AC have out of YVR, they'll need 18x widebodies to run during peak time, not including spares.

Now after today's announcement, the question is... what would AC do with the other 4x weekly? Before this, 4xSIN, 4xMNL, 6xBNE makes 2 rotations... so this new 3xBKK will come at the expense of the 3 routes above, or AC is looking at other routes to add/increase capacity?

And speaking of which, I guess AC is leaving plane on the ground during Dec-Feb for the 3 days PEK is not operating. Maybe they'll swap 7M8 to 789 for some sun routes when there's high demand, or maybe there's some charter work, like how some days in late Jan there's two widebody flights for YVR-KOA...

^ I continue to admire your in depth views of AC ops at YVR. As soon as there is another change you’re all over it!
I don’t think we will see any substantial long haul additions from YVR until more widebodies come online
BKK (and Thailand) is a fun destination - just got back again a couple of weeks ago and enjoyed every minute of the 10 days. I’d say take advantage of the service as it provides a fantastic alternative and exotic sun destination. And with nonstop flights year round makes it so easy to get to.
