A couple questions for you guys that are plugged in:

1. Do the Scientologists still own the Peck building?

2. Can the City initiate any forfeiture proceedings due to total lack of upkeep on the building?

I notice there’s a fence around it now blocking sidewalks. I’m assuming that to prevent bricks from falling on pedestrians? Sad.

I was forced to detour down that section of Garry last week because of the burt block party. Ans the sicnetologists are definetly still active in the building. I'd assume they still own it.

So unfortunate because it's easily one of the best buildings in the Exchange and could be used for so much more on such a busy intersection.

As of early last year they were kicking the tires of local consultants for the conversion of the building into office space.

I don't know where that ended up, but I haven't seen any movement thus far.

—, this is getting ridiculous. Even if none of these fires are arson, that's still a lot of fires in a short time.

The Free Press is reporting that it is arson based on an eye witness seeing someone smashing the window and throwing something inside the building igniting the fire.

Im afraid this will hamper or kill the redevelopment plan with Maws Garage. Wasnt this building also part of the plan?

If the structure is intact, it'll just speed up the process if anything, as they were planning to gut it and just keep the facade anyway.

Hopefully the facade wasnt damaged then. That project looks great for the area. More eyes on the street might help prevent stuff like this in the future.

This reeks of revenge. I bet it’s somehow connected to a jilted patron or bad blood against ownership. That’s a big personal risk to take, burning down a place like that in plain eyesight.

Definitely a possibility. IIRC, some of the main players that run EEC were also running Commonwealth.

Was event hopping between the commonwealth block party, Diablo and Select Start during the long weekend and over heard from at least 3 different groups that they think the people at Diablo had something to do with it. Either someone is spreading the same rumour/conspiracy theory or there's some merit to it?

Noticed at lunch another fire at the exchange event centre or whatever it’s called. Former old spaghetti factory. Fire trucks again. Quite the city we live in.

Driving home down main and through the area around Siloam last night. It’s something else. Never thought I’d see Winnipeg like that. I don’t understand why all levels of government aren’t acting with greater urgency.

What is with the concrete jersey barriers along the sidewalk in front of Main Street project? Protecting the people sitting on the sidewalk from cars? How did the city allow that?

yup, i remember getting off plane in Mexico or Dominican and being shocked to see stuff on way to resort, now parts of that area in Winnipeg are no different. It appears zero urgency to do anything with it. I walked from P&M to Dim Sum garden at lunch hour and it was not a good experience (and I'm a 50 yr old male, couldn't imagine being a young female).

I can't believe the way the United Way Building looks now. I know that their reason for being is to help people in need, and it would likely look bad if they had the homeless removed from the front of their building, but it looks like a garbage dump now. I drive through that area every day and the garbage is definitely migrating southward into the exchange.
