Good news on the Wells mine. I hope that Ajax proposal never sees the light of day. It needs to die forever. I'm all for mining but to put one on top of 100 thousand people by the worst polluter in Europe is retarded. This country is too damn big to build mines beside a large population and ruin their quality of life so some multi-national can make a couple billion dollars. They'd be stupid to try that again. People won't allow it, nor should it be allowed.

I hate the fact that the water parks never come to reality in Kamloops. It's perhaps the best place in Canada for a major waterpark.

The interior of BC in general has a bizarre lack of such attractions given its summer tourist industry.

If we had no NORTH Thompson river, Kamloops would be very different. Imagine Kamloops lake as the same temp as the Shuswap ? The North Thompson kind of causes an issue with its water temperature.

Apparently the Bio fuel plan is seeking government funding right now... shocker.

The North Thompson doesn't really affect it. We head out by boat a couple times every year and it's warm. 2 weeks ago we were floating for hours in life jackets. The cold North Thompson water sinks when it hits the lake. Not as warm as the Shuswap, but still very comfortable.... Especially when it's 35.

The biggest thing that screws Kamloops lake is the tracks on both sides. It's great when you access by boat because it's so chill and quite, but any access other than that is tricky.

They should put a water park in Savona. Would be a cool spot super close to town. Tag on a hotel with boat parking and camping and the place would be a hit! Land would be cheap too.

Never understood why Savona remains such a dumpster ( compared to other lake side communities ) ... There is so much potential around Kamloops that just goes un tapped in all aspects.

It's 45 minutes out of the city with no major local services, a large empty industrial zoned plot from when it had a sawmill and a large machinery and mining supply yard. There's no incentive to live there if the plots are averaging $450K-$700K and groceries is at minimum a two hour drive.
It's the same for a lot of the towns between Hope and Kamloops on highway 1: When the Coq opened and it was no longer a major artery to the coast many of the motels, restaurants, gas stations and campgrounds closed and they just became small towns with little to no local services or incentive to move there.

If Tobiano put in a grocery store and a little town center it might go a long way to help bring added interest to Savona. Maybe some day. Its in a beautiful location.

Half the town consists of a field full of rusty mining equipment that hasn't moved in 25 years and natural gas compressors.
The land's just too expensive to spur development. Either they are costly waterfront lots that would be zoned for density or trackside lots. I see it unlikely to ever be much more than a Weekend Warrior retreat.

I guess we knew about a couple of them. The Sandman next to Costco is interesting and makes sense since it Northland taking forever just above.

Are things slowly happening again at the Mundi development on Rogers Way? Feel like i saw some new framing happening.

Ya that Mundi project is back under construction. They left their crane on site for years with no activity, then they finally start back up and they remove it, haha. Who does that? That project is such a mess. Can't believe they're working on it again. I'm sure in a couple months they'll change it back to condos.

I wonder if the new airbnb rules are part of the reason why these new hotels are getting built?

I actually don't want the Kamloops area to expand west of the Munro area.

Its nice actually having an expanse of desert with small rusty towns.

The Okanagan has already had 99% of its natural desert landscape lost to urban development and agriculture, the Similkameen isn't too far behind, so its nice actually having a decent expanse of more natural and rural desert landscape between the west end of Kamloops Lake and Spence's Bridge.

Ya I tend to agree. Driving west on the No. 1 from Kamloops gives a crazy unique vibe that would be a shame to lose. At the same time, I think Savona could use a draw or 2 and the area would more than likely stay relatively the same. Even with all the construction at Tobiano, the area still feels the same.

Looks like there have been a bit of a development on the Tranquille on the Lake project. It has been decided that it does not need an Environmental assessment after all: https://www.projects.eao.gov.bc.ca/p/64f9f03e559cf40022effe76/project-details

Not sure if this was the only hurdle. Their website is no longer active so not sure what's going on.

I really hope this works out. It would be nice to have a lake swimming spot and lake front part of the city as well. I remember hearing about this development in 2021 or something, sounds like it would make for a good tourist attraction for wine tours there

That whole development pretty much sums up why Canada/BC is so un-investible and why nothing gets built here.

- Company wants to build houses on private land within City limits.
- Random native band goes out of their way to stop it by burying it in red tape.
- Government entertains natives request and drags their feet for years while they make a decision.
- Government concludes that an environmental assessment is not required because the environmental assessment process is a redundant process that addresses issues that will be addressed through already established regulatory processes. Pretty much saying the 2018 Environmental Assessment Act is pointless. Does nothing but waste time.

Could you imagine waiting years for that answer!? It's no wonder companies go broke before a shovel even hits the ground. Hopefully that's not the case with this project.

Looks like the multi family construction activity will continue for a bit.

6 multi family building permits issued between July and August with 300+ units. Any guesses which projects? I think Canary Loft is in there.
