Right up there with Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, and Purdue. Some heavy-hitter Engineering schools. RTR

I read, recently, where the alumni "impact" rating for The University of Alabama alums ranks 43rd in the United States. Not bad for a Public University from the state of Alabama when compared to the nine Ivy League Schools, Stanford, Notre Dame, etc. ROLL BAMA ALUMS!!!!

I mean, all you have to do is pay attention to all the crap that is going on over there with their admissions scandals.
Actually, Auburn's enrollment of Black students has fallen slightly over the last ten or so years. Try again. Stop making excuses for pathetic leadership at UA. There is no reason UA can't have even more stringent admission standards.

And, I don't see any products of the place that they can be proud of. Of course, to them it's all about the check clearing.

I love the fact that, students who attend The University of Alabama, with great teaching and curriculum, have a chance to shine. We produce great students and graduates that can compete with any University in the Nation, and, definitely outcompete any school in the State. i think Chad is onto something. I hope "atlanta" writes Dr. Mohler, like he said he was going to do.

Some info about Dr. Mohler that may interest some of you. He is a researcher, at heart, and understands the dynamics of hiring the right faculty who are curious and are able to articulate complicated subject matter to students in the classroom. Look for UA's ascension in research and innovation to accelerate. He has three kids. One is a Junior at Ohio State, the second will be a Freshman at Boston College this Fall, and the youngest is a Junior in High School. And, like myself, Dr. Mohler loves peach cobbler and his favorite stop, so far, around campus is The Peach Cobbler Factory in the shopping center on the Strip. He's very approachable. If you don't write your letter in crayon, and behave yourself, there is a good chance he'll answer. I hope you respect his answer more than you do anything else on this board. RTR

UA, the state flagship of Alabama, should not raise admission standards cause PCOM, a tiny private non-allopathic medical school, has not raised their's. = Packer logic . Retarded dude.

As for rankings, PCOM will never be ranked high cause it is non-allopathic, so try again Packer.

Who knew UA should hold itself to the same standard as lowly PCOM?

As for the claims that standardized tests don't matter, here is what Google AI says about the correlation between the ACT and academic performance.

ACT scores and academic performance, particularly in college, generally show a positive correlation, but the strength of this correlation can vary. While the ACT can be a useful predictor of college success, especially when combined with high school GPA, it's not the sole determinant of a student's academic journey.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Positive Correlation:
ACT scores are often used to assess college readiness and predict academic success in college.

IMPORTANT! Studies have shown that students with higher ACT scores tend to have higher first-year college GPAs.

The ACT can help identify students who are likely to perform well in rigorous college courses, especially in STEM fields.

Some research indicates that ACT scores can be a stronger predictor of academic success at "Ivy-Plus" colleges than high school GPA alone.

One of the reasons UA has fallen in the rankings is we admit too many students of poor quality, leading to a less than impressive student retention rate, six year grad rate, and overall impression of rigor. Selectivity matters. Any concerns about the disadvantaged student are answered by directional schools where students of lower quality can prove themselves academically worthy of transferring to the state flagship.

The ACT is a good screen for student quality. It's not that hard to figure out why UA has fallen so dramatically in the rankings. As other schools have raised standards, UA failed to raise their's. Auburn also started to relax its standards, though not as much, and has also fallen in the rankings. Perhaps the AU Board is requiring standardized testing again to regain Auburn's place in the top 40 of public colleges.

I didn't say they were enrolled did I? I said they were applying and getting accepted and the admissions office/director was including profile characteristics to each applicant to steer away from the federal law that came out against affirmative action in the colleges. By applying test metrics this takes away from the application and acceptance of the people AU dislikes.

In saying all that, dude I used to stick up for you but I'm done. I can't keep having the same conversation with you. Whenever I see a post from you, I will just ignore from now on because it's going to be the same thing you've spewed out time and time again. Have a great weekend!

Interesting theory, but I see no evidence that Auburn has had a huge increase of Black applicants and there was never a federal mandate requiring Auburn to enroll a significantly higher percentage of Black students. Sounds more like wishful thinking. Why is it so hard for some of you to admit that UA's Board is not that concerned with selectivity?

I guarantee that if Bama football was sinking in the football rankings as much as it has in the academic rankings, alumni AND fans would be furious. Sad that so many seem to care less about the latter.

Non-allopathic medicine is the same as (Witchdoctor, Shaman, Voodoo Priest, Oriental Medicine, Flea Circus operator, or, basically any loser who wants the dumbest of the dumb to believe they are some type of doctor). So, when we are dealing with atlanta, we know what we are dealing with. I am so happy that I "Graduated" from a legit, vibrant, popular institution, The University of Alabama. atlanta, did you "graduate" from The University of Alabama? Hmmmm Anyway, atlanta is so concerned about UA's falling academic reputaion with US News and World Report. This is an article that follows the "academic reputation" change of colleges and universities by US News and World Report from 2015 thru 2023. It seems The University of Alabama's "academic reputaion" score increased from 3.0 to 3.2 during this time, but, fell 49 places in their bogus rankings during this time-frame. So, your dumb ass rant is pretty much like your "so-called" profession, a tremendous joke. Your inflated ego has gotten the best of you. You can't handle facts and the truth, even if it's right in front of your pitiful face. But, what would anyone expect from a "graduate" of The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine, an fraud institution that should be investigated and shut down.

Packer, you are a nasty person.

First of all, of those "professions" you listed, only Acupuncturists are licensed. They are licensed in virtually every state in the nation. Alabama is one of the few that does not license Acupuncturists, though they can still practice there. Witch doctors, shamans, etc, not licensed. Second, 500 years before Christ, the Chinese had mapped out the physiology of the body and even come up with a rudimentary understanding of the immune system. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine are based on empirical observations, not mysticism.

You are obviously a Western chauvinist. If I did not help people, there is no way I could make a good living at it. I am not a natural sales person, so I earn a good living cause I actually help people and get referred by patient spouses and friends.

Again, the notion that UA should not raise admission standards cause PCOM supposedly has low standards, is retarded. I am embarrassed for you. Get some help please. I don't wish your level of pettiness on my worst enemies.

Finally, yes, the rep score rose a little, and that is not surprising as the school's research profile has dramatically increased, but it is still lower than that of most SEC schools and would be higher if admission standards were higher. Academic rep is just one part of the USNWR criteria. I have shown over and over that the majority of the reason for the decline in the rankings is the failure of UA to improve student quality at the lower tier of admitted students. It is now extremely difficult to get admitted to UGA. UA prob can't expect to have as strict of a standard, but the extent of the difference in admissions standards is just embarrasing at this point.

Sure, GPA is extremely important, and for non-rigorous fields, I am sure it is more predictive than ACT. But for more rigorous coursework, like STEM, the combination of GPA and ACT/SAT is even more predictive. Regardless, I have always thought UA should raise the minimum high school GPA as well as the minimum ACT. Raising standards is NOT just about standardized testing, but also GPA! That does not mean UA should continue this bullshit test optional policy, esp when COVID has been over for several years now.

UA ranks high in "student life"

https://www.al.com/educationlab/2025/08/...-starting-college-at-age-16-excited.html

Feel good story above about a brilliant 16 year old Engineering student enrolling early at UA.

UA is ranked fifth nationally in "Student Life." One of the criteria is campus beauty, another is grad rate. If UA's grad rate was not so low, relative to other flagships, I bet UA would rank at the top in this ranking. Don't anyone pretend I never post positive info about UA here. See https://www.al.com/education/2025/08/thi...t-yale-in-2025-student-life-ranking.html

This buttresses my argument that UA would have no trouble maintaining enrollment or even growth if it would just raise admission standards. UA has so much going for it, especially "student life." It is why we love our alma mater so much. It can AFFORD to raise admission standards.

Yes I did, and I love UA very much. I don't love its leadership though, kinda like I love the state of Alabama very much, but don't love its leadership.

This is how you build a Nationally recognized STEM program. Thank you, to Richard Shelbly, for bringing in $100 million for an endowment to recruit top "Big Dog" faculty, like Dr. Matchev, which attracts more outstanding faculty and graduate students that will make the University of Alabama a major National player in STEM research. Also, beginning this Fall, the previously bloated core curriculum (much larger than any school in the SEC and Big 10) has been culled down to allow STEM students more time to spend in labs and classes required for their majors. The old core curriculum had been a barrier in recruiting some Engineering students in the past. With the adjustment, it is already making a difference. Now, THIS is how you build STEM.

Packer16, I joined skyscraperpage.com just for the purpose of letting you know how your posts, particularly to atlanta68, come across. You bring to mind a middle school “mean girl.” You have been condescending, arrogant, small-minded, and petty toward another poster simply because he has expressed legitimate concerns over the direction of the University. You have denigrated his educational and career achievements, and it appears that you have virtually stalked him and are possibly obsessed over him. It wouldn’t surprise me to learn that you’ve actually driven by his home or his place of work. I have, not once, seen Atlanta react in kind. Your posts reflect poorly on yourself and bring reproach upon the University. You need to grow up and act like a man.

There's a reason I stopped coming around this thread. The quarrel between the two of them is exhausting. At least we haven't heard any racially tinged comments by atlanta in a while...

NICE! I'm keeping that one in my arsenal for the annual trash talk from other SEC schools that will be coming up mid-September
