When Avison Young were representing the court-ordered sale it was described as "Currently improved with a 51-unit apartment building, providing holding income".

Not sure if this was posted but 1525 Robson has street use permits for the demolition of the 6 storey building

https://plposweb.vancouver.ca/Public/Default.aspx?PossePresentation=Guest&PosseObjectId=268116716

The demo permits are still in review.

Any comment on the 2 jaywalkers running across the street. We are all just trying to get through our busy days.
Edit: My bad \ apology, that video/gif is sped up so I can get it into a 20 second gif.

What jaywalkers? (not actually an offence anywhere in Canada btw, it's an American thing, nice deflection attempt from your poor driving). You can see in the video the light was red along Robson, hence why you were able to blow through the stop for your turn.

They can issue jaywalking bylaw tickets in Vancouver it's just not enforced and not much different than people who think a red on the main road is a "green" for them.

Pedestrian controlled intersections are the stupidest things. No one seems to understand them

You're right GenWhy?, reading that stop sign as a yield sign was wrong, and sorry for the r/vancouver remark, it was immature on my part. yes?

I got a ticket for jaywalking in Victoria many moons ago.

It is an offence in BC, at least,....and probably in most places in Canada.
Just not enforced in most of those places.

So definitely not (just) "an American thing".

Also, I can confirm from that encounter (and that cop) that not knowing that jaywalking is a ticketable offence, is not an excuse for getting out of being sanctioned for it.

Of course, here in Vancouver I've also seen people jaywalking right in front of cop cruisers and the cops doing nothing about it, .....sooo....

It’s not illegal under BC law but municipalities obviously can and do make their own law to cover jaywalking.
In Vancouver it’s only illegal within one block of a signalized intersection.

VAHA Burrard is moving along briskly now, posts have started on the 6th floor and the black prefabricated exterior walls are going up on the 3rd floor.

WRT jaywalking, if I recall correctly, there is an exception for the Granville Street pedestrian mall, provided that you cross away from intersections (so that turning vehicles (buses) don't encounter you during a turn). There used to be bollards with chains near the intersections, but those we removed years ago in one of the renos.

Balmoral, Regent

Construction of new housing on notorious DTES property could begin in 2027

Details have not been released, but the city said in an email this week that design and permit applications are underway, with construction targeted to begin in late 2027 to early 2028.

In the meantime, the vacant lot is serving as a “community hub” managed by the Carnegie Community Centre. Staff are using the space over the summer for low-barrier arts and crafts and cultural teaching, along with providing support and response to people exposed to extreme heat.

Temporary infrastructure such as a stage, seating area, gardening space and a hand washing station will be added to the site. “Culturally safe programming” will begin in the fall of 2025, the city said.

“Planning for the long-term redevelopment has taken time due to the complexity of demolishing the existing building, assembly of adjacent properties, and the need for meaningful community engagement and coordination with senior government partners,” the city said.
