For the love of God, NO!

We already have a Rogers Centre; the Convention Centre was renamed less than a year ago.

Seemingly every stadium is called Rogers-something. Does any of this extreme exposure make people like the brand more? Does anyone actually like the Rogers Brand?

-asking for a friend.

I've always hated Rogers, but sticking their name on everything makes me hate them more. How about good service at a reasonable price instead of blowing billions on naming rights?

As I said, I have no interest in the arena, it is the stadium stand I want to see rebuilt.

I'm not sure if I have seen one or two of these angles. I like the quirky looking stand, it has all the seats where they should be. It look like a US college setup. I think this is going to turn out better than some people think it will (like Hamilton)

So the goal is to box the football stadium in on every side ensuring it can never be expanded 20, 30, 40 years down the road. That's the worst spot for the arena imaginable.

It will be possible to add seats behind the new north side bleachers; there's a space between the stands and the towers.

That's about it though. No idea how we can expand it, even temporarily, to 35k+ for events like the Grey Cup or NHL Classic as we did in 2017.

I'd love to see the new Sens arena called 'Rogers Dome'.

That would get some laughs.

That section appears to be fairly old, no?

The bid drawings I'm looking at have the stand directly against the property line - But I also really only look at structurals so I could be missing something in the Arch sets relating to the future condos.

I couldn't agree more why not space the arena out 350 feet back. Do something cool with the stands that make them integrate with the arena but can be removed temporarily? A large patio in between the arena and stadium that drops down into stands for example. Gives a flexible gathering place for beer gardens and standing room and that way adding 10-12,000 seats for a big event isn't the end of the world.

Td place from the get go is a giant oversight. The south side stands were built so low the first 5 rows have obstructed veiws. Its kind of pathetic for a modern build

Why do you need space for once in ten year events? Things like Grey Cup revenues are now shared so an individual team doesn't need to worry about selling a bunch of tickets to put aside as a rainy day fund like they did before.

The Sens have been clear that they won't ask for any monetary contribution from the Feds, Province or City to build the arena, but they do want the NCC to speed up development of LeBreton (i.e. sell or lease more land to private corporations for housing, retail and entertainment). They'll likely ask the City to partner up with them on a community rink (City rents ice time), transit discounts (transit tickets included with game/concert tickets) and tax breaks (City has a CIP for contaminated land).

So unlike Edmonton and Calgary, the Sens arena will have virtually no taxpayer contributions.
Thank you for the very clear and concise explanation! Much appreciated.

wow....the entire building is privately financed? That seems unbelievable....the very few precedents for that are generally part of a much larger real estate play that makes it viable....have they said how they will make that work?

I would love to see an end to the era of corporate welfare for billionnaire owners of sports teams and millionnaire athletes. It is really quite disgusting, lined up against other spending priorities.

And (required host city) spending on the Olympics has gotten completely out of control.

That's not what I read. The Senators ownership is seeking $600 plus million in handouts and tax incentives or the project is not going ahead. IIRC, the target is the City of Ottawa than the Feds. In other words, fully privately funded is not an option.

It makes sense. I can't see any real estate fund investing in a stadium since it's worst real estate investment by far and the Senators ownership simply can't afford to self finance an arena.

They might be playing the game like Seattle did with Climate Pledge. That arena is privately financed (the government took on no debt for the project, nor an expense on their books which reduces revenue available for other initiatives). But paying back the funding is tax funded via several innovative forms of tax increment financing and incremental parking revenue tied to increased activities caused by the renovated arena.

I think he was being sarcastic.

Between Scotiabank, Rogers and to a lesser degree Bell, the naming rights for most stadia and arenas in North America have been locked up.
