Yeah, weird drawing. Not sure what that half soccer pitch is meant to be. On the bright side, the deal they just announced is for 11 acres, so presumably room for some of the add-ons we are talking about.

Still no price or even a confirmation of the parcels involved. Could be from Bayview to Broad Street. Could be City Centre to Booth. But if we consider the City's Albert RoW, the Preston RoW and a diagonal cut out at the Albert/Booth intersection (sewer line?), then it could give us something different. Maybe City Centre to Booth, maybe the Bayview triangle as well.

They have this image on the NCC Lebreton Major Event Centre website... have we seen this before?

Parcels A1 through A5 (Bayview to a bit past Preston)

edit: this must be new, the writeup is updated on that page too

The latest on the project
On August 11, 2025, the NCC and CSDI entered into an agreement of purchase and sale of approximately 4.5 hectares (11 acres) of land to bring a major events centre and arena district, including a mixed-use development project, to LeBreton Flats.

The agreement lays out obligations for both parties on items such as decontamination of the land parcels and building of infrastructure elements crucial to the success of the project.

About the project
CSDI is proposing to build an NHL hockey arena and events venue, a new pedestrian and cycling bridge in the Preston corridor, and a mixed-use development at Parcels A1 to A5 of the LeBreton Flats Master Concept Plan. The project would be located on Albert Street, between City Centre Avenue and east of Preston Street.

Read the Master Concept Plan to find out more about the vision for LeBreton Flats.

The NCC launched a request for expressions of interest in December 2021, which attracted multiple submissions. The NCC examined all of them, with the intent of securing a feasible and successful project.

Hallelujah! Thank you Spoonsy!

Would have loved for the Sens to get the entire area south of the tracks so a climate controlled walkway could connect Pimisi's lower level, through the concourse, so near Bayview. Alas, this is still great news.

Guessing the arena will be in A2-4. Wonder if City Centre Ave that dead-ends on Scott Street will be extended through to the parkway for another entry/exit point.

It’s being led by Claridge. Really hope it’s quality and not a typical Claridge build.

No chance City Centre will be extended to the Parkway. City has the Preston extension in its TMP, but the NCC isn't intrested, opting for a active bridge instead, as agreed to by the Sens.

Doubt Claridge will build here. They have enough going on with their own LeBreton land. Andlauer might get other developers in on the action somehow.

Also, reports that the sale price was $30 million, which seems cheap, so I'm assuming Sens will take on decontamination.

This arena will have a very unique site, unlike any other NHL arenas (except arguably Amalie Arena in Tampa, somewhat). It will be across the tracks from a vast urban park, visibly unobstructed from the river. The design will need to be flawless to take full advantage of its location.

Sort of reminds me of the library's prominent location with unobstructed views of the river through the escarpment park.

Of course Claridge will be building here. Claridge and Alinea Holdings will be the leading developers on the mixed use portions. They didn't join the ownership group to take a step back and allow other developers to take the lead.

Looking at this max height diagram, the Sens could in theory build the event centre and the following towers on their site:
1x 40fl
2x 30fl
2x 20fl
1x 12fl

It doesn’t seem like there is room for a plaza or other gathering place. That would make Ottawa one of the few cities without such a feature. To me this is the wrong side to put the arena.

They could have joined for the Palladium lands, which is not in a rush to redevelop.

Seems Andlauer wants LeBreton to develop ASAP. I don't see how Claridge can do that considering how slowly they've been developing what they already own.

Hoping they'll propose taller than the master plan. Dream is building 31 and 36 where 2x30 was shown on the plan. That 5-star hotel will hopefully be a landmark 40+ floor tower.

They did show a plaza in their initial renderings back in 2022, though it was hard to gauge the size. Alternatively, the urban park north of the tracks or the Aqueduct district could act as the fan plaza.

There will no doubt be some kind of public square near the main entrance to the arena. Let's hope they do a good job with all the connections to nearby parks and, more importantly, transit.

I've heard Andelauer say puck drop 2030 a few times so I tend to believe him. I imagine that means 2030-31 season or maybe midway through the 2029-2030 season. Those 4.5 years will disappear fast!

Depending on how deep they dig (hopefully at least the first bowl), the arena is going to be really prominent looking from the river. Given the scale of the building in the renderings, it looks like it will be significantly shorter than the CTC so probably 40-50 feet below grade. This is similar to Little Caesars in Detroit.

Mark Sutcliffe excited to see next steps for Senators at LeBreton Flats

While the Senators and NCC have a deal on 11 acres of land at LeBreton Flats, Ottawa's mayor reiterated the city won't be using any taxpayer money to help fund an arena.

Mark Sutcliffe views it as a step in the right direction for the city of Ottawa, but knows there is a lot of heavy lifting to be done before the dream of a downtown arena becomes reality.

The Ottawa Mayor was pleased to see a hurdle cleared when the Senators and the National Capital Commission announced on Monday that the National Hockey League team has agreed to purchase 11 acres of land at LeBreton Flats.

The purchase price is believed to be just north of $30 million, according to league sources.

This news comes 11 months after the Senators and the NCC confirmed they had reached an agreement for the club to buy the land. Senators owner Michael Andlauer and Cyril Leeder, the team’s chief executive officer, are bullish on the idea of being closer to the city centre.

Speaking to the Ottawa Citizen by phone Tuesday morning, Sutcliffe stated he’s pleased to see the Senators and NCC agree on a purchase price for the land, but reiterated the city won’t be using any taxpayer money to help fund an arena.

“It’s exciting news. I want to congratulate Michael Andlauer, Cyril Leeder and the Senators and the team at the NCC because they worked very hard and very long on these negotiations. It’s exciting to see them reach this step,” Sutcliffe said.

“As they underlined (Monday), it’s one step in a long process, and I look forward to hearing more details and seeing what happens next. There is no way to move forward unless the Senators have a piece of land to work with. Now, the next part can begin.

“The last time people thought this was a done deal, there was going to be a new arena, and they were wondering when shovels would go into the ground. We’re not at that stage yet. They’ve purchased a piece of land, that’s exciting, but now the hard work begins.”

That hard work will include planning out the site, which will not only include an events centre, but is also expected to have 2,200 housing spaces, a hotel and a restaurant/bar district to help make it a destination for people in the city.

The Senators also have to get their financing in place to pay for the rink after spending the last 30 years at the Canadian Tire Centre. Andlauer has stated publicly he will need help from all three levels of government — federal, provincial and the city — to make this work.

Sutcliffe reiterated on Tuesday that he doesn’t want any taxpayer money to fund this project. But there are ways the city can assist.

“We play a role in every development project that happens in the city of Ottawa. So, yes, absolutely, there is a role for us to play,” Sutcliffe said. “We have not been a party to any of this to this point. We weren’t at the table, and nor should we have been, for any of the discussions between the NCC and the Senators. That was between them.

“I look forward to hearing the details as the Senators develop a plan. We will see where that leads, and we’ll be ready to work with the Senators on the site plan, zoning, transportation, public transit and all of the different elements of the infrastructure that will be needed to make this move forward.”

Sutcliffe said he has been kept apprised of negotiations throughout by the Senators.

Leeder has cited the structure used to negotiate a Public Private Partnership (P3S) for the Bell Sensplex and the Richcraft Sensplex in the past. He said those have been successful and has indicated there may be room for that kind of negotiation here.

Sutcliffe said it’s too early to speculate on whether a P3 would work in this scenario.

“It depends what it is,” Sutcliffe said. “P3 is such a broad and general term that it’s hard to know exactly what that could look like. I am always ready to talk about anything that will benefit the city of Ottawa and the residents of Ottawa.”

Sutcliffe plans to sit down with Andlauer and Leeder shortly to discuss what the next steps are in this process. The city also wants to find out what the plan is for the 75 acres where the Canadian Tire Centre sits, because it will be either sold or redeveloped by the Senators

“The Canadian Tire Centre has been a huge economic driver for Kanata for 30 years now,” Sutcliffe said. “It’s been a job creator, great for restaurants and the community there. We can’t overlook the fact that if the Senators, someday in the future, are no longer going to be playing there, and all those big events aren’t going to be coming to the Canadian Tire Centre, we need to have a plan for that site.

“We need to make sure the economy of Kanata is protected, that the jobs are replaced and that there is something else exciting happening there that will be an economic driver for the west end of the city.”

To this I would say - Hey Mayor Sutcliffe, did the city paying for the Lansdowne football and potentially the new rink using taxpayer dollars? Not to mention that useless library we built... This arena will welcome likely 100+ events every year, that likely around 1.5Million visits, how many people will go to that Library???
To think that a private business will dump $1Billion in this city and the 3 levels of government will not contribute anything is a bold face lie

.... end rant

There is room for the plaza extending from Preston between A4 and A5 with a direct connection over the tracks.

And for the obligatory annual Stanley Cup parade and celebration they can borrow Canada Day stage on the big lawn just a short walk from the arena that they could actually walk with the Cup. Perfect, really.

You're right. Preston can double as an active corridor and the plaza area. The bridge could be build large enough to act as an extension of the plaza, as per the renderings.

I feel like Sens Mile might need to move from Elgin to Preston.

EDIT: Preston is named for the Lord Stanley of Preston. Yes, that Lord Stanley. How perfect is that!?
