I haven't been able to find an official height figure for this tower, does anyone know? All the articles say it's 34 stories, but here in Chi ~34 story buildings can vary from 295ft (michigan terrace) to 648ft (the daley center lol)

Ya can't use the height of the Daley Center as a guide for a hotel. It houses courtrooms with 15+ foot ceilings. The Bally Hotel will be much closer to the 295 feet.

Nope!

Bally Hotel will be about 447' from the riverwalk.

295' for 34 floors would equate to roughly about 7.5 foot floor heights (with roughly 8-12 inches for the floor plates). Not exactly an ideal height for a luxury casino hotel.

Michigan Terrace is a product of its era, with many 50s-70s towers having relatively short floor heights. Most newer buildings, especially in the luxury segment, boast taller and airier floors.

Daley Plaza is on the other extreme, as BruceP noted, with very tall courthouse ceilings. Office buildings typically are not comparable to residential/hotel towers in that regard, since they have much taller floor heights.

The aerial renderings show the hotel tower similar in height to The Montgomery, which is approximately 400 feet tall.

Keep in mind the typical hotel floor may be 9'-10' but Bally's tower is not a regular freestanding hotel. The lobby is at street level (elevated) and there will be a lower/riverwalk level and multiple podium levels with tall floor-to-floor heights for the gaming floor, meeting rooms, etc. I'm guessing a few floors of suites at the top as well with taller floor-to-floor heights.

Yeah that was a joke haha. I was on the Diagrams page and the contrast between that thing and Lake Point Tower is hilarious, 32 stories vs 69 stories

Anyway, 447' sounds about right-- BVictor1 could you share the link for that? Admittedly I haven't looked thru any permits or anything

They're out working today (Saturday). Looks like some steel is going up. Maybe for a mock-up or something else temporary?

I would assume it is permanent steel at this point. Same for the concrete columns going up at the tower. Nice to see this going vertical.

They have an aggressive schedule on this thing; that's definitely permanent steel. This project should really start moving now they are getting out of the ground.

I don't see any visible progress in almost the 3 weeks from your last post.

The casino is literally supposed to be open September 2026. Doesn't seem like they are in a hurry.

^^^ We all know this is NOT going be completed by late next year. I’m sure once construction timelines are being adjusted, I fully expect an announcement that completion date will be pushed to 2027, possibly even early 2028.

Perhaps it’s a function of the fact that I really don’t care too much about this project, but my perspective is now very much “when it’s done, then I’ll care.” I still love seeing buildings going up as construction progresses, but after 23 years in this industry, delays never surprise me and I never hold my breath.

Yeah I mean even if the casino is completed next year, they will be mostly inaccessible until CDOT finishes the Chicago/Halsted viaduct and Chicago Ave bridge.

I suspect the city cannot realistically hold Bally's to the 2026 opening deadline if they're not doing their part on the infrastructure side.

I don't know anything about construction timelines, but I can say somebody is out there six days a week and holidays. There's some more steel up now, and that concrete core to the left also looks bigger. But maybe what seems like a lot of trucks and excavators isn't really that much given the size of the building. I don't know what a normal amount of activity looks like.

I was on the outbound Ontario feeder and noticed this thing is really starting to take shape. . . unable to get any pics, but if anyone can get over there before the weekend to get some photos that would be great. . . I'll try and get over there tomorrow or Sunday. . .
