At least (it seems) they picked the smallest least ugliest one.

The source tends to be 100% reliable. His word is good for me.

The two spire versions look the same to me. Maybe one is possibly taller, with more floors and a shorter spire? But if the only difference is height, why would a tenant get to decide on which spire version? I would think the developer would base the decision on how much was preleased and their confidence in the office market.

Spires often —, unless they look like that of the Chrysler Building. I hate the spire on 1 WTC. Looks incredibly cheap. It really detracts from the building.

The most hideous spire has to be that forest of antennae on top of the Conde Nasty Building.

I also don't like the Walkie-talkie spire of that building in Philly.

It's a spire, as officially stated by the CTBUH in 2013

Because that's a perpetually unfinished spire. Completion was aborted in order to save $20 million.

It's certainly not worse than the NY Times building, which you can hardly see. Now that one definitely should not count and that should not be a supertall...but we are diverging from the topic...

Assuming the AmEx thing is true, I wonder when they'll make a formal announcement. Maybe closer to the anniversary?

Also I'd like to know which design option they are going with, if just so I can begin the process of begrudgingly accepting it.

Would be sweet if it was announced on 9/11 of this year. I know 9/11/2026 would the 25th anniversary, but we don't want to wait another whole year.

Considering that the foundation is set, I wonder how long after construction starts that it will be 10 stories above ground.

Not the same, the one all the way on the right has more mass than the one to the left. And the design all the way on the right has the tallest metal "fins" not reaching the parapet. You see both designs on the images pulled a few months ago, you'll spot it with a keen eye when you compare all of the exterior images. Also I made the models

You guys just want something built even if the design is terrible. I am hoping for a complete redesign. There is nothing grand about the current design.

Naw.... Ugly buildings are just too obtrusive and impactful to the psyche. What would I give for monstrosities such as the Central Park Tower, or 432 Park Ave, of the downtown Chase Plaza, or Metlife building nor 55 Water St, downtown Verizon Building, etc. not be in my field of vision filling me with disgust and dismay.
An empty lot full of promise of at least mediocrity, not abject hideousness, is most certainly preferred.
