“Wake Forest's football game with Notre Dame in 2027 will be played in Charlotte” - Winston-Salem Journal July 29, 2005. I’ve indicated numerous times that the stadium in W-S should be doubled in size to draw from the Charlotte MSA instead of those in the Winston-Salem MSA having to go to Charlotte (oh wait, I forgot WFU now has a Charlotte Campus) still W-S is the main/home campus (I think it is). WFU’s stadium is the smallest in the ACC, which is ridiculous. I don’t think RJR would like this. I’m sure the announcers at this 2027 game will be indicating WFU is in Charlotte.

The Grounds has shared a rendering of the apartment complex on the social media and confirmed that construction on it has started.

This is part of the Duke's Mayo Classic. Two Clemson vs Georgia games were relocated away from their respective college campuses to Charlotte and Atlanta for a Duke's Mayo and AFLAC Kickoff game.

What would be more embarrassing would be a stadium twice WFU's current size given the traditional attendance in the smallest stadium in the ACC. There's a big push for the University of Miami to leave their current arrangement with Hard Rock Stadium (65k) and build an on campus stadium half that size.

Wow, it’s been a busy day on this thread in a busy month! I wish Creekside at The Grounds was all-brick facade. It would be really snazzy if it were.

So I'm putting this image here to try and figure out where the student housing project is being built. Based on the rendering above and site plans I thought the apartments were going to be north of Silas Creek in one of the stadium parking lots, but I haven't seen any sitework done on that side.

I think the tall building nearest to University is supposed to be a hotel? The rendering shared to social media doesn't give any clues and actually appears to have the spire from Wait Chapel in the background (which isn't anywhere near the Grounds).

Any idea where the student apartments will sit?

Creekside at The Grounds will overlook the newly restored Silas Creek and will feature direct connection (via pedestrian bridge) to The Grounds’ retail village.

So it is on the north side. That’s good to confirm, this project is going to transform that whole area, especially with everything happening in Whitaker Park.

The student housing is the three large "L" shaped buildings in the "Orange Lot" across the creek. In the first rendering they released you are only seeing the face of one building. They are big buildings (each is 5 stories?).

Appreciate the clarification from all. It was a bit confusing to me because the announcement said they've gone vertical, but I didn't see any sitework having been done on those parking lots north of Silas Creek.

Black metal fencing and decorative retaining wall have been installed to finalize section of the multi-use path from 4th street to Peters Creek Parkway. It looks great!

I have walked and biked from 4th to Brookstown several times and am happy, overall, with the trail.

The underpass under PCP might be scary at night but it is easily avoided by taking a marked crosswalk with walklight across PCP and a spur of the trail that leads down to the back of the stadium.

There are paved pads up that stretch that seem designed for benches or tables. Nothing on them yet. That stretch is very sun-blasted so I hope they put in shade trees. The grade on either side of Green St is a bit steep. Some folk will end up pushing their bikes but it’s not too bad.

The one really bizarre element of the trail is the new section from the Strollway to Marshall. To use it, you first take the curvy bit of the strollway north to Salem Pkwy and then the new Cor-ten overpass west over the highway and down to a path along its south side. You follow that for a block or two and emerge at Marshall…

Then, you have to cross Marshall at grade and take a widened sidewalk along High St. down to Brookstown. Cross Brookstown at grade, and you’re on the rest of west-bound path.

It’s just dumb and unnecessarily complicated. I stay on Brookstown for four blocks (must cross Marshall at 4-way stopsign at Camino) and that intersects directly with top part of treed Strollway that runs down along Old Salem. That avoids the (eastward) climb up High St and the crossing at Marshall where the on-off ramps from Salem Pkwy add greatly to its traffic flow.

They really should have just widened Brookstown’s sidewalk or put in a dedicated lane there instead of this expensive falderal with the flyover.

That would be unfortunate. Anything you can share beyond it being a rumor?

I received it as hearsay within layers of hearsay, so I cannot verify it. This morning, I further heard it is being converted into a northern Italian restaurant named Tuscani later this month. The rumor claims most staff will remain, and minimal changes will be made to the interior.
