The city recently held a public meeting for the future Hamilton/Commissioners roundabout....

Construction is scheduled to take place in 2027 (not 2026 like I mentioned in my post from earlier this month)

The detailed design is currently at the 50% design stage.

The proposed Intersection Improvements will include:

• Replace traffic signals at intersection with a roundabout.
• Widen the pavement on Hamilton Road, Commissioners Road, and Old Victoria Road to accommodate two through-lanes [each direction] on roundabout approaches.
• Improvements to accommodate active transportation (sidewalks and bicycle lanes).
• Full illumination at the roundabout and approaches.
• Enhanced landscaping and tree planting.

With all the proposed residential sub-divisions along Commissioners Rd the widening of Commissioners to VMP to 5 lanes hopefully happens in 2028.

I just drove through the intersection for the first time since the left turn restrictions were put in place, and guess what ..... there was a car on Highbury attempting to turn left onto Oxford, right beside the large No Left Turn sign... luckily there was a construction worker right nearby and he came over and motioned the driver to keep going.

I genuinely don't know if this is ignorance (even though the no left turn signs are right there) or just a "me-first" selfish attitude

Definitely a "I don't give a shit, I'm turning" attitude. Same as earlier in the spring across from the college when there was no lefts at First or Jim Ashton, people still did, or tried.

Definitely I don't care attitude with a dash of oblivious indifference. Would be nice to see some of the new rookie police officers hired under the huge budget increase assigned to traffic duty here to hand out tickets and fines and give some of these folks demerit points and future insurance premium hikes. A couple of well placed officers with cameras and radios to call ahead for pull overs would do wonders.

They have now removed the pavement on both eastbound lanes of Dundas St E. Appear to be fixing small sections of curbing and don't plan on replacing all the curbs along this stretch.

If you think the construction headaches at Highbury and Oxford or Wellington and Southdale & Bradley are bad, they are weak sauce compared to what's about to happen to Wellington and Commissioners next year.

Get ready for 2 years of hell as the spillover effects from impacting the city's busiest intersection will be very widespread.

I've been lucky the last couple years to be able to find suitable workarounds for these construction zones during my work, but eventually they will catch up with me lol. I am planning to have knee replacements the next 2 summers, so hopefully that helps lol.

Speaking of roundabouts... the Hamilton/Gore roundabout has been scheduled to start next year for a while now.

The councillor for the Ward 1 area (McAlister) just posted today on social media pages that they have been having issues with getting HydroOne to sign off on the project, since their corridor is right there.

And sure enough when I go to the project page, it says it is now scheduled to start in 2027 and not next year...

The councillor also shared that the demo of the old buffet building is still moving forward and that it should be down in either Aug or Sept.

Wonder how many months the file sits on a Hydro One desk going through the administrative hell and bureaucracy. Is it any wonder that things can take years to get done just because of paperwork?

Paving crews were hard at work on the eastbound lanes of Dundas east this morning paving in the lanes they just dug up earlier this week. They had a good stretch of the right hand lane paved when I went by at 10am, didn't go back that way in the afternoon to see how much more was done. Easy to think they move the traffic over to that side next week and start replacing curb sections, ripping out the westbound lanes and start paving it the week after next. I could be getting way ahead of myself but considering this started later than it seemed like it was supposed to, it seems to be moving along pretty well.

Up at Highbury and Oxford, I had been intentionally avoiding this area the last couple weeks but went up that way midday today. Highbury from the overpass to north of Oxford is now on the west side of the road and they have a long turn lane for lefts into the industrial complex immediately to the north of the overpass (left turns veer to the next of the transit island, straight through stays to the right of the that island). Oxford was still in the old format as a couple weeks ago minus no left turn from westbound to southbound. There is a left land to go north from the eastbound side right now but that will go away when they shift the lanes over the north side of the road, whenever that will be. I think this will also be when access to the mall will be restricted to only coming in from the driveway on Mornington.

They have now finished the east side two lanes of the Adelaide St N Thames River bridge refurb. They have now done the traffic shift to start working on the two west side lanes.

Have started putting in the base coat of pavement on the west bound lanes of Dundas St E.

The Queen's Bridge (which carries traffic from Queens Ave to westbound Riverside Dr) will be rehabilitated next year.

The bridge is also being widened to accommodate future Rapid Transit lanes and a new multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.

The city will be holding a virtual public meeting on September 10th.

Finally acknowledging that the route to the north and west should be Wharncliffe/Western and not Richmond? Too bad they didn't come to that conclusion before the new CP bridge was done.
