Well I noticed this morning the very old Yee Toy Confectionary on Victoria and Reynolds was torn down. That building is a bit of an institution as I can't remember a time in my life where it didn't look abandoned on that lot.

There is a fair bit of construction going on in that area, I wonder if there is the possibility for more in the future.

There is no problem for people who can afford it. There are plenty of high end spaces for those relatively well off or with good pensions. The problem is people who either did not save for retirement or were unable. You cannot afford these places on CPP plus OAS. 40 years ago these higher end places largely did not exist, so it is great that the private sector has stepped up. They take a lot of pressure off the subsidized system.

There are enough spaces for people who are well-off, but if everyone had the money required for them, there wouldn't be enough spaces. It won't matter how much boomers have saved, when they require an assisted living space (and then full care), there won't be enough rooms/beds in the province.

Checked out a few ongoing projects. https://www.flickr.com/photos/regina...7720325409071/

Moving onto second half of first floor at 15th & Toronto. Framing the first floor concrete trusses at Ronald McDonald House.

No pictures but there is a condo project started in Harbour Landing west of the McDonalds on Gordon. 3rd building identical to 2 others already there. A 4th one will be going in eventually. https://gilroyhomes.ca/harbour-pointe-condos/

The city is proposing to build a full cricket field/bowl and park in the empty field in Albert Park that is beneath the flight path to the airport (between Pasqua, Parliament, and Queen). I think it's a fantastic idea. I fully expect the neighbourhood (which I live in!) to be opposed to it due to parking...which is the same reason why they managed (along with the airport) to get that multi-unit condo building shut down in the same area.

Hopefully the city pushes through with this:

A park is a nimby's best case scenario for infill. Doesn't increase density of the existing neighbourhood. If approved 2028 partial opening, 2029 for full operation, so a ways off.

Anyone know what's cooking in relation to this proposed rezoning?
Maybe has something to do with the planned temporary placemaking for 'The Yards' ?

I was looking at the city's aerial photo map and they got a layer for 2024 added as it had been missing for quite a while. There's also a 1951 layer that I don't remember seeing before or it had been much lower resolution.

https://opengis.regina.ca/basicviewe...l?basemap=2020 then click basemap in the lower right and scroll down.

Here's what used to be in AE Wilson park responsible for the ground contamination.

I kept getting lost browsing the map and had to switch to a modern one to figure out where I was. There used to be rail lines all over the city. There was a bridge over Wascana Creek on Retallack before they built a berm to protect the Crescents.

I saw a post on Reddit about a Grand Coulee roundabout under construction at the #1. I'll have to go investigate. I couldn't find a design document. I looked at Sask Tenders and there was a construction tender for $8 million and a second half million tender for paving. Total length 4.3 km, so long ramps for semis to get up to speed. 12000 tons of concrete for the roundabout. I guess they'll finally get to build their truck stop out there at some point.

I used to bike out there a lot doing a Pinkie, #1, Grand Coulee Road, Dewdney loop, but the number #1 should went to crap about 5 years ago.

Nope, other option ended up being the GTH so city had to bribe them $7 million to stay in the city.

So it's still going to Westerra, not further north?

Still Westerra. The city made the offer I haven't heard is Costco sealed the deal or the time frame for construction. I don't think Coopertown was ever an option as a lot of major road work and utility expansion would have been required.

Got some shots of the Grand Coulee #1 exit work. Too big to get an overhead downward looking shot. Might be another month of dirt work before the final layout starts to emerge. Looking like an inner oval to decelerate and reverse direction, re-accelerate and move over to the exit. Possibly planning to divert traffic onto the new part before modifying the existing highway. Maybe they'll move the entrance to that farm yard on the other side. https://www.flickr.com/photos/regina...7720325409071/

The canola fields reek of roundup this time of year. Thinking about stuff that's too big to get in a shot I remembered there is an optional wide angle lens for the drone that gives it a fixed zoom of 0.67 increasing the view area by 25%. I'll see if I can track one down as the ones for the mini 3 are out of production.

It certainly had the abandoned look for a while. This was 2008 and it was still open.

Please tell us you absolutely know nothing about agriculture with that kind of statement. Makes you wonder if anything else you post is factual!
