I view it as the first of many to come. It will set the stage for all future blocks if built and that would be more of a people warehousing district than an interesting, urban neighbourhood.

Two tower proposal one at 69 floors and a second at 62 floors. A JW Marriott in one tower and a W Marriott in the second tower. The height isn't known yet, but they are saying it will be the tallest in western Canada, but I'm guessing they mean tallest hotel in western Canada, but doing the math at 11 feet per floor and those bottom 5 floors looking like double heigh floors, I guess it's possible it could be a new tallest building in general. Time will tell for sure. Either way, nice to see more hotels space in the core.

Ummm, Vancouver’s 595 W. Georgia would like a word.

This is from Truman's Instagram account. Sounds like it might the tallest building period.

Truman is thrilled to announce a landmark two-tower development set to transform Calgary’s skyline. At 62 and 69 storeys, these towers will be Alberta’s tallest, bringing world-class design and new energy to the city.

Until any of these Calgary or Vancouver proposals are built, Stantech is the tallest.
Personally I think it's only a matter of time until Vancouver or likely one of its suburbs has the title for tallest outside of Toronto.

First very exciting Calgary tower proposal in a while! Kind of funny they have that small hotel recently proposed next to BMO in the rendering (I assume same developer), along with Saddledome, which will likely be gone by the time this thing is built.

I am surprised they wouldn't have built this one closer to the arena.

I think everyone expected a hotel to be right next to the arena, but instead all 3 will be built near the 17th ave entrance. Kind of a surprise for sure.
The consensus is now that 17th ave is opened up to the Stampede grounds that the people traffic will most likely be on that side.
There was originally a plan called 'Stampede Trail' that would have retail businesses along the street the Arena's on. IDK if that plan has any traction any more.

I just saw that Calgary hotel proposal on SRC and was going to post it here. That sure came out of left field. Looks it's going to be taller than Brookfield Place by 1 meter!

Damn, that Calgary proposal is a nice one, nice to see something visually interesting after seeing those Waterloo proposals. I don’t get the deal with twin towers in that city. Is it like a law or something?

Ahh Surreal beat me to it! I haven’t been this excited about a Calgary tower development since Telus Sky! Normally I hate twins but this looks amazing! Like others have mentioned I also worry about Truman’s exposure right now though. Don’t want Torode 2.0.

I wonder how much of an effect the new Scotia bank attends and investment in the area had to do with this proposal moving forward… as in, if there is no new arena, and no cleanup of the whole area, do these twin towers exist?

Surrey will most definitely get something in the next 10.

Yeah, or Burnaby. Height isn't a concern in those places, whereas Vancouver may see some pushback.
IMO, the West Georgia proposal is a tougher go. More likely to see opposition, and also Vancouver's condo market is slow right now, and those condo units would be very expensive.

We'll see how it all unfolds. I'm liking the fact that there are multiple possibilities of a new tallest for western Canada. Too bad there wasn't a supertall in the mix.

I'm sure the arena has had an affect for sure, but the new BMO Centre has probably had a biggest effect. It's western Canada's largest convention centre, and previous to that there were conventions that skipped Calgary because of the lack of space. The combination of the new convention centre and the new arena definitely was a game changer.

I hate twins too, but I can live with twins if they're residential.

Broadway 17th was a nice refresher in between Telus Sky and this one.

A few other things worth noting:

(1) there are still two parcels in this area which are ear-marked for hotel developments;

(2) this development is a few blocks from the proposed downtown station for the YYC-downtown-Banff rail development (a potential tourism game-changer if it proceeds); and

(3) the developer has publicly stated that both of the towers in this development will be taller than Calgary's current tallest (Brookfield).

No wait - that can't be right! Won't the Saddledome be gone by the time this gets built? LOL!

Unreal Cowtown proposal. That Scotsman's hill view was already one of the most epic in Canada, I can't imagine how good it would be if these are built. As for the Saddledome in the image, I wish they could strip it down to minimal structure and keep the roof as a covered area for Stampede, a giant canopy. Low maintenance massive sun and weather shade for the fairgrounds, it could have year round amenities underneath it like farmers markets and Christmas markets. It's so iconic to me as a born and raised Calgarian. I'm off to Stampede next weekend, and it might be the last time I ever see the ol' Saddledome (I have lived in Quebec and Ontario for many many years since my childhood).

They could keep the general structure of it, and build yet another twin towers project at each end of the structure.
