Previously it appeared as just awkward embellishment.

But now it's larger and you can see there's something visible even further on top now - maybe helipad or somehing else

I am wondering if it is now additional space that is occupyable (new word?).

Plans are for a luxury rooftop hotel and this may be some expanded feature for that hotel which could make this slightly more tolerable if it is very cool.

Brilliant. With $/sqft highest at the top, this will maximize the value.

The huge, bulbous top reminds me of Gazoo on the Flintstones.

Per the Developer's Rep:
https://www.thenextmiami.com/variance-requested-for-brickell-supertall-rooftop-crown/

“The extension of the rooftop crown into the visual corridors will allow for an elegant, signature architectural feature that enhances the appearance and character of the Miami skyline, and the community in general will be enhanced by this signature rooftop crown,” wrote a representative of the developer in a letter to planners.

The rooftop crown will accommodate unique hotel rooftop amenity deck, while also screening mechanical areas, the letter said.

The crown is planned to be located at 1,025 feet above grade, so it won’t impact the pedestrian experience or perception of the visual corridors from Brickell Bay Drive to Biscayne Bay, the letter added."

Revised Plans Filed for Citadel’s Supertall Tower at 1201 Brickell Bay Drive in Miami
Revised Plans Filed for Citadel’s Supertall Tower at 1201 Brickell Bay Drive in Miami

By: Oscar Nunez 8:00 am on April 25, 2025

Revised plans have been filed for the mixed-use supertall tower planned by Citadel at 1201 Brickell Bay Drive in Miami’s Brickell Financial District. The project, which is progressing through Miami-Dade County’s Rapid Transit Zoning review process, was initially submitted in October 2024, with updated filings made in late March 2025. These revisions reflect standard iterations commonly submitted throughout the County’s multi-phase development review.

The proposed tower will maintain a height of approximately 1,049 feet above ground, or 1,052 feet above sea level—the maximum permitted under current FAA regulations in the area. Design updates include a visibly expanded crown element, now featuring a lighting system capable of multi-color illumination across the upper levels and the building’s façade. The structure will be set back from Brickell Bay Drive and span the length of the waterfront parcel between Southeast 13th and 14th Streets, with plans to integrate a continuous public baywalk along the eastern edge of the property............click article for more

LOL This is amazing

Also, at first I hated the top but it's kinda growing on me. I bet it'll be like the transamerica pyramid. Hated at first, then loved over time.

The fact that it serves some purpose and you can go up there makes it a little more palatable than if it was just a decoration.

I'm gonna have to trust Lord Foster on this one and at least see how it turns out in person.

Fred Flintstone's perplexed look will be apropos of anyone who walks by this tower. Fortunately, the de facto world HQ in NY will be an iconic masterpiece.

Plans Filed For Cranes To Build ‘One Of Greatest Office Buildings In The World’

The Federal Aviation Administration received an application yesterday for approval to install construction cranes at the Citadel site in Brickell.

According to the June 17 filing, the cranes are expected to reach a height of around 1,301 feet above sea level, or 1,297 and 1,298 feet above ground level, pending approval.

The cranes are estimated to be installed beginning around October 17, 2025.
