When truly full, that peninsula goes away.

Some years back when the lake was very low, I remember driving onto the peninsula to the new “beach” that was created.

It's a long way from full. It's only 43% full as of today. We got a lot of rain between 2015 and 2018, and the last time the lake was full was early 2019.

I was going to say that when I was still living in ATX, you -never- saw those islands. Going out on a boat, you were aware that there were some shallow waters but you never actually saw those islands above the water line.

Now that was 40+ years ago, so I know that a lot has changed since then. Is the lower water level all due to climate change or is it also due to water use/consumption?

I thought it had something to do with soybean farms unless I just dreamt that.

It's mostly the ongoing drought. Increased usage due to the huge increase in population has to have something to do with it.

It is both. Our climate has really changed. We now have the same climate as San Angelo use to have. We also have easily double the population so that doesnt help. We do need some new water source options.

My brother walked from Mansfield Dam park all the way out on the Sometimes Islands in 1963.

11 days later, Lake Travis' storage level is 71% full. Just under 20' from full elevation of 681'. It's risen some 24' since July 4th.

And it's only around 19' from being full. Pretty good for July.

Flood gates are open for the first time in six years on Lake Buchanan. LCRA says the "sometimes islands" in the bowl of Lake Travis will disappear in the coming day or two as water flowing out of Buchanan will filter down into LT.

As of 4:40 pm...Lake Travis is 9.35' from full conservation level (of 681'). Roughly 35' higher than it was prior to July 4.

That's good news, unfortunately it comes with unimaginable tragedy.
