YYC May 2025 Stats:

Domestic: 1,168,487 +5.3% [YTD: 4,735,628 +2.25%]
Transborder: 308,391 +2.4% [YTD: 1,404,504 -1.06%]
International: 203,839 -0.01% [YTD: 1,066,363 +4.6%]

May 2025 Total: 1,680,717 +1.97%

2025 YTD: 7,206,495 +1.97%

YYC seems to be curbing the trend and had an actual increase in US traffic. International is almost identical (off by like 150ish).

EDELWEISS AIR in summer 2026 will be using the 359 to YHZ and YYC (partially) instead of the 343.

Ah ok 👍🏽. Without looking at the schedule, I assumed the first few weeks were a 343/359 mix.

YUL is definitely following the trend. If it wasn't for transborder, we'd be in positive territory overall.

YUL May 2025 stats:

Domestic: 618,486 +5.0% [YTD: 2,462,910 +4.0%]
Transborder: 411,865 -9.1% [YTD: 1,894,734 -7.7%]
International: 850,955 +1.3% [YTD: 4,203,071 +0.7%]

May 2025 Total: 1,881,306 -0.0%

2025 YTD: 8,560,715 -0.4%

Will be interesting to see June numbers, and if the F1 weekend juices up the transborder numbers a bit. A lot of Americans come up here to watch F1.

Isn't WestJet cancelling or curbing some American flights from places like Winnipeg, Edmonton etc? If that's the case it could mean funneling some extra traffic through YYC.
Though I was up in Banff on the weekend and I ran across a lot of Americans. I don't if it's more than usually, but I'm curious if the amount of Americans coming to Canada has increased.

Even the Americans don't want to vacation in the USA any more.

DJT, the Canadian hospitality industry would like to thank you very much.

They also cut/reduced flights at YYC too. WS LFs in May were pretty meh as well with some US departures going out with just 19-22 pax. They were much better in June.

Although it looks like Calgary in general is seeing a rise in US visitors while other parts of the country as seeing the opposite

You might want to rephrase that sentence of yours, because it's the furthest thing from the truth.

I wouldn't say it is the 'furthest thing from the truth" although it is wild hyperbole.

A drop of 8.9% by American tourists year over year is certainly a significant decline as is the 12.6% decline in visitors from Asia. I wonder if that is mostly China?

Are those numbers including connecting passengers? I’d be surprised to see such a jump for local destination passengers.

A drop of 0.6% in foreign tourists is not a significant decline. It's not even worth mentioning. And besides, European, Mexican, C and S. American tourists were up.

So claiming overseas visitors aren't coming to Canada is simply false. They are, by the droves.

Also, the drop of Canadian tourists to the US significantly outnumbers the drop of US tourists to Canada. In a normal year, more Canadians vacation in the US than Americans do in Canada, so if we stop going to the US, they will hurt more than the reverse scenario. Let's remember that.

1x semaine, saisonnier seulement. 18 Fev - 29 Avr.

La demande de YQB vers FDF et PTP est-la, mais ce n'est pas un marché énorme. C'est pour cela que tous les vols YQB-FDF/PTP sont 1x semaine, incluant les vols AC (FDF) et TS (FDF/PTP).

Maybe also that Saudia's Chief Commercial Officer Arved von zur Muehlen seen on the press release as been WestJet's Director, of Network & Schedule Planning, Director of Revenue Management, Vice-President of Pricing & Revenue Management and Vice-President, Network & Revenue until 2021

Those include connecting passengers. It's a mix of increases to both Calgary/Banff and connecting passengers, but most of the increase is probably due to connections. I don't have any specific numbers to break out. That said Calgary/Banff has been seeing a rise in American visitors and spending. Tourism to the city has been on the rise in recent years. As mentioned earlier, 7 hotels have been built in the downtown core alone in the past 7 years, with an 8th recently proposed. Tomorrow another downtown hotel proposal will be unveiled.

From the article:
Quote:
Reynolds said data has indicated that spending from the United States has trended positive since the beginning of the year in Calgary, and it has maintained strength through to the end of April.
She noted that Mastercard Economics Institute ranked Calgary among the emerging top destinations for summer travel among the US and Canada relative to the same time last year, the only Canadian city to make that list.

Thanks. So some increased travel also to Calgary or Banff as a destination, but mainly connecting passengers.
I imagine the increase in traffic to Calgary as a destination is mostly due to Banff.
