It’s crazy it has all that wasted space in the “mechanical” floors

AFAIK, they are mechanical floors and not empty "mechanical" floors. They probably could have dropped these interstitial mechanical floors for one big ass penthouse on top of the tower but, then it probably wouldn't be a supertall.

Speaking of empty, here is a picture of the top level, today One West reached official super-tall status in height!

Images sourced from urbantoronto.ca

The posts on top of the main columns have reached the 300m mark. They will be part of the final crown.

Great to see One Bloor hitting supertall status. For a while there were rumors of it getting halted, so glad it kept going and now is officially a supertall

Any guesses on how long until Pinnacle passes it?

I will still say fortune has smiled on us that OBW will be completed as a supertall.

The race to topping out is over. Pinnacle may still end up fully finished before OBW.

Pinnacles Sky Tower is moving fast! They have already completed floor 81 I believe. Another 25 to go with larger floor plates. This thing is going to be TALL. From the islands, it's going to look absolutely massive.

Really cool to see a supertall in Canada. It took 50 years for First Canadian place to no longer be the tallest building in the country

Love that shot too. It's at the point where we can compare Toronto's skyline to Chicago's. Toronto doesn't have the handful of supertall office buildings, but Toronto has more high rise residential towers.

Beth MacDonell, what a truly moronic reporter. Paraphrasing: "One Bloor West will lose its supertall status when the proposed 105-storey One Yonge gets underway." Someone get the dolt a helmet. She shouldn't leave the house on her own.

I like Toronto’s skyline, but idk if we’re ready to compare it to Chicago skyline yet.

Harsh calling someone a dolt for confusing supertall with tallest in the city.

Comparing skylines is highly subjective and trying to do it, statistically, is opening a can of worms. However, I think there's still a wide enough gap, numbers wise, to go with Chicago and be worm shit free. Toronto has many towers still under construction and the skyscrapers built and the taller skyline infill spreads out to secondary skylines. As for the former, Toronto can build another 150 glassy towers that blend together and people will still choose Chicago.

Perhaps, but she would have sidestepped the broadcasted gaffe with the most rudimentary of research or local knowledge. Not only will OBW not "lose its supertall status", but the 105-storey One Yonge is not "proposed" but mere months away from topping the hell off.
At any rate, I really don't understand the hullabaloo over OBW. There are dozens, maybe hundreds of supertall buildings the world over. This is not groundbreaking or noteworthy, other than maybe, debatably even then, as local news. As skyscrapers go, the completion of the CN Tower was a much more significant event, imo, back when skyscrapers were far, far fewer and mainly confined to North America. Heck, at the time of its completion almost 50 years ago, FCP was the 6th tallest building in the world, surpassed only by buildings in N.Y. and Chicago.

CTV will never live this down.

I agree on sloppy reporting but, it's rampant in our politically tied media. AFAIK, supertall isn't a word and, as little as a few years ago, no one outside our community ever heard or read it. It's an innocent error confusing tallest in Toronto with supertall

Several hundred built supertalls around the world doesn't reduce that they are remarkable achievement in height. For every one or two supertalls' built, there's at least one on hold and dozens cancelled before ground broken.

For North America it's

New York 17
Chicago 7
Houston 2
Los Angeles 2
Atlanta 1
Philadelphia 1
Monterrey 1
San Francisco 1

That's fucking it!!!! (and that includes cheater spires)
