me crossing at 1145. funny the Mayor was in front of me and they were trying to film him crossing, but people kept stopping wanting to shake his hand so he had to re-do the walk a few times.

I was there at the "ceremony", crossed a few minutes after the politicians, and then went on to run some errands. About an hour or so later, I went back to the intersection to sit and eat lunch. The crowd was mostly gone, and the mayor was standing at the intersection, alone, just watching. He seemed to be talking to himself, maybe rehearsing a speech, maybe running through more ideas for downtown. It was honestly touching to see. He deserves a lot of credit.

Gabe is an absolute legend.

I remember when he first started dancing at games during a Jets vs Nucks playoff series in 92 or 93. He used to have dance offs during stoppages in play against a guy everyone called the 'Dancing Ref' (younger, blond skinny dude in a ref's jersey).

The crowd at the old Winnipeg Arena definitely preferred Gabe and he hasn't looked back since.

As a society, we really need to stop pretending everyone's opinions matter on literally everything. The truth is that 99% of the time, the average person's opinion is completely worthless. People know hardly anything about everything, and if you do know something, it's usually limited to a very narrow field in your vocation.

Social media has given us all the impression that construction worker Joe Mcman's opinion about who can cross the street and where is worth just as much as urban planner Sarah Misswoman. It's utter nonsense.

I wonder how much the pedestrian traffic dropped in the underground with the street crossing now being official?

Just watched the 5pm CKY news and their live report showed just a handful of people at Portage and Main corner their reporter was at, and there were not large amounts of people crossing when they panned down with their eye in the sky camera.

I doubt it will decline, most of the underground traffic comes from office workers above using the shops and services below. In the winter it’s also the most convenient way to get around not having to bundle up to make it from one end of downtown to the other is a luxury.

They should allow some street top ad boards or such for the pedestrians to be aware/reminded of the businesses down below
