They started removing the counter weight at the beginning of winter but stopped at some point. Glad they've started up again.

In today’s property and development meeting at city hall, when being briefed on report 7, Quarterly Verbal Reports on Downtown Development, councilor Russ Wyatt asked the public service the following, which they declined to comment on:

“I understand that The Forks has just recently made a big decision. I heard The Forks has just closed on ten new sites on either side of York avenue on isreal Asper Way basically all the way former parcel four all the way down to the studio, tv whatever that television, City TV, that old parking lots, that ten new sites have been identified and awarded, are we familiar with that? Is there anyway we can get a briefing from The Forks on this? Considering that ten new multi family sites have been awarded is a big news development and uh kinda surprised we haven’t heard about it, but anyway. Maybe they are going to announce it and I just kiboshed the announcement, I don’t know. But anyways so I’m just hearing what I’m hearing out in the industry right now so, is there anyway that we can get some information from The Forks on this one? It’s an exciting development if that’s the case, what I’ve heard from the folks in the industry who have bid and successfully secured that this has only happened this week, and it’s a big development, it’s a huge development. Can we put this on the next agenda have The Forks come to speak to us about this in September, by then they’ll be ready to announce It I’m sure.”


Is he completely out to lunch with this comment and naïvely unaware of the current status of Railside and its ten parcels that have been awarded for development for years? Or has The Forks awarded ten new sites on parcel four? After he made his comments It was odd that the public service chose not to comment or correct him nor brief the committee on the status of Railside besides mentioning two approved developments at 32 and 72 Isreal Asper Way, which have been previously posted in this thread.

First Russ is an idiot. The interesting thing from his comment was the “sites on either side of York”. The current Railside development doesn’t span both sides of York. He probably misspoke, but if not that sounds like a phase 2

When a government contract is given out does the legislature vote on who is awarded? Sounds like you're looking for a problem where one doesn't exist.

The Forks North Portage Partnership is governed by a ten-member Board of Directors. The partnership is responsible for the ownership, management and development of The Forks and North Portage sites.

The Railside properties will remain under public ownership and be leased to developers.
