Yup.. 735k people and 5 Costco locations including the Business Centre. Surrey has 1 for 630k.

The last Costco built in the Lower Mainland was in 2006 - 18 years ago! Costco hates us!

didn't they apply to open stores and they got no approval, No wonder there is hate.

Plus I imagine getting land big enough is much cheaper in a place like Winnipeg.

Yeah this is all Costco having a vengeance for Metro Vancouver, where they definitely aren't opening any new stores at all, and where land prices are notoriously low similar to those found in Winnipeg and Regina...

Right! 2008 actually. I wasn't thinking when I saw 1990 for this location on the Costco web site. *I* know it didn't open that long ago.. lol.

it says 1990 as that location was originally at Boundary and Grandview (walmart now) and it moved to a larger new build off Willington after the Downtown store opened.

That's sad to hear. Considering all the filming that happens here, I thought it was a great idea to have more sound stages and there certainly was a lot of space they could have used for it on that site.

It's been a year since I posted about the new Costco in White Rock/South Surrey. There will be two new Costcos in the Lower Mainland within the next few years:
Costco in South Surrey - Should be opening in the next few years. It's still undergoing its process with the City of Surrey and development has not started.
Costco Business Centre in New Westminster (Warehouse #1723) is likely delayed until the Spring due to permitting and other stuff with the City.

The new Costco will technically be the first in Newmarket, but the second in the general Newmarket area, joining the existing East Gwillimbury warehouse located at 18182 Yonge St.

Eventually, the big box retailer plans to convert the East Gwillimbury store into a business centre, although no timeline for that transition has been announced yet.

Maybe start of construction. One of my jobs when I worked as a line painter was at this Costco before it opened. It was 2009, that was the only summer I did this work.
