ok, I was confused because AuxTown said tabletop breaker, but this is only a whole 4.4 m taller than Place de Ville, so in my books.. that just adds to the table top. perhaps that just me.
I do love the density though.

Embrace the table top. It's Ottawa's skyline's greatest attribute. A couple typical Ottawa candlesticks vs sculptural billionaire Vancouverism rising above ain't going to enhance it.

I understand what you're saying however, Place de Ville C has been the tallest in the CBD since 1971, and it's noticeably taller than everything else, rising 6 meters higher than the second tallest in the CBD (Place Bell, known today as ONE60 Elgin) and 16 meters above the second tallest in the immediate area (Marriot with the revolving restaurant next door). Then we're getting in the 20+ meters difference.

This new tower then will be the first tower in 30+ years, not at the front of the skyline (Cathedral Hill towers), to really pierce through the table top. From an Ottawa perspective, it's a table top breaker, but understanding that for most other major Canadian cities (and suburbs of Toronto and Vancouver), it's really not.

This thing is going at such a snail's pace now. From December to June, they've only clad the first two floors. I wonder where the cladding is coming from? Probably the U.S.

They have two tower nes just sitting there idle, waiting for shipments.

I wonder how far behind schedule they are at this point? I suppose in the end it will be worth the wait.

The portal to 1989 collapsed.

That corner window on the 3rd floor looks really good until you expand your view to include the giant grey spandrel panels above. I guess they could be temporary as they look so out of place.

Yeah, I think it’ll turn out decent, I find almost all the buildings in Burnaby look the same to me, but that height will make Metrotown skyline stand out a bit more. It’s always nice to have a new tallest.

.
I suspect the reason the first two floors have been going so slow is because of the type of material, it looks like some sort of glass brick, paneling, or something?
Whatever the material is, I like it.

It also reminds me a lot like the glass tiles you’d see in kitchens, but larger. I’m guessing they’re expensive and time consuming to install.

Glass brick is no more difficult to install than other brick. Repairs can be tricky and, after so many years out of fashion, I don't know that there are many with expertise still working.

The soundtrack is unexpected for Metrotown! Great video, love your drone work giallo.

Diamond Schmitt Architects for Telus Ocean (one of the few office buildings under construction in Canada) - reputable award winning firm.

They made modifications to change from a primary glass wall, moved the Telus sign to the lower level so it wouldn't be seen above the Empress hotel. They also planned to have the building almost disappear or provide a neutral backdrop to the Empress if seen from the harbour, added dots to the glass to prevent bird strikes and panels to the back sides for privacy for the condo residents and less reflections. But perhaps it all comes out as a bit too messy?

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt until I see the final product and how the designs on the extruding edge of the windows panel come together. One thing for certain is it'll look completely different depending on the light, there won't be a smooth look or reflection and it look completely different when viewed from the north vs. the south.

One thing they should have done is made that ground level prow more dramatic.
