Application was probably done and received ahead of the first flight, which was on May 30th.

So sounds like WestJet is having a cyber security incident.

I had a look at Victoria and things look normal.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/westjet-cybersecurity-incident-1.7561474

Maybe CBC is being more concerned than they should be.

I am flyer Porter more so than anyone else these days. Posting miles into Alaska program. They are doing a great job of building out their network. But they need to add Dash 8 into Vancouver to actually have a hub on the west coast. Something they look reluctant to do.

The reservation system was not affected so it’s not causing issues with the flight operations. Mostly causing issues with web based systems and Microsoft programs like outlook/teams etc.

YOW's May pax stats are out and they somehow managed to eek out a small transborder increase.

Sector / May-24 / May-25 / % Change
Dom: 304,539 / 328,143 / +7.8%
TB: 50,090 / 50,566 / +1.0% - probably mostly thanks to FLL going year-round on PD
Int'l: 13,932 / 22,061 / +58.3% - AC & AF combined seat factor for the month was 89.4%
TTL: 368,561 / 400,770 / +8.7%

Sector / YTD 2024 / YTD 2025 / % Change
Dom: 1,204,226 / 1,349,991 / +12.1%
TB: 332,944 / 360,461 / +8.3%
Int'l: 267,350 / 255,204 / -4.5%
TTL: 1,804,520 / 1,965,656 / +8.9%

May % of traffic recovered vs 2019 / YTD vs 2019
Sector / May / YTD % recovered
Dom: 89.6% / 86.8%
TB: 90.7% / 106.5% - the 90.7% is the big indicator that transborder by July at the latest will turn negative
Int'l: 119.3% / 106.3%
TTL: 91.0% / 92.1%

12 Months Rolling / % Change vs Year End 2023
Dom: 3,577,265 / +11.7%
TB: 768,966 / +33.5%
Int'l: 421,729 / +33.1%
TTL: 4,767,960 / +16.4%

Going to be a messy few days at YYC with regular ATC flow delays including full ground stops and airspace closures for VIP arrivals/departures.

And just like that, there’s another 221 order as LOT sign for 20 firm 221s and 223s apiece:https://www.airbus.com/en/newsroom/press...its-first-ever-airbus-order-for-40-a220s

With Flair dropping YYC-CUN, along with the integration of WG into WS, WS now almost has a full monopoly on YYC-Sun routes for this winter.

Granted was probably difficult for Flair to go up against double daily 787s.

I know its about efficiency but man do I wish WS would share some love for Western Canada outside of YYC. I hate YYC haha.

YHZ's April 2025 traffic with domestic noting a surprising small decline and transborder a huge increase (last month of PD's new winter seasonal Florida routes - but YHZ still has a lot of summer transborder capacity coming, so it may hold):

Sector / 2019 / 2024 / 2025 / % Change vs 24 / vs 19
Dom: 263,569 / 241,230 / 235,174 / -2.5% / -10.8%
TB: 40,059 / 24,797 / 30,890 / +24.6% / -22.9%
Int'l: 46,140 / 54,615 / 57,810 / +5.9% / +25.3%
TTL: 349,768 / 320,642 / 323,874 / +1.0% / -7.4%

Year-to-Date:

Sector / 2019 / 2024 / 2025 / % Change vs 24 / vs 19
Dom: 914,063 / 786,925 / 804,221 / +2.2% / -12.0%
TB: 124,751 / 83,846 / 122,280 / +45.8% / -2.0%
Int'l: 139,353 / 181,463 / 180,076 / -0.8% / +29.2%
TTL: 1,178,167 / 1,052,234 / 1,106,577 / +5.2% / -6.1%

Tuesday was WS' inaugural YYC-YSB: https://www.wingsmagazine.com/westjet-la...algary-route/?oly_enc_id=5001D3490978J5J

Will operate twice weekly summer seasonally.

Flights next summer are loaded to start in May.

A recent update on the Stephenville NL airport aerodrome:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundl...lle-airport-power-disconnected-1.7551321

This whole saga has been fascinating to watch from afar as someone who knew the 'mysterious' owner in a past life. My main takeaway from this is that a lot of people in the area have a very good reason to be upset with their local politicians.

Was launched last week, along with YQY and RDU.

And as of now I see YYC-YSB scheduled from June 8 in S26.

Was definitely not on my bingo card. Sad that AC/TK can't cooperate better

What is even more interesting is they have onward interline agreements in IST on Turkish airlines. That gives them access to the middle east, Africa and Eastern Europe. Given Turkish is a star alliance partner with Air Canada, I would not have expected that.

Transat also has interline/codeshare agreement with Porter on the Toronto end.

I think Air Canada shuts Turkish out on any codeshares or similar arrangements. Air Canada routes its Middle East connections through Lufthansa Group or the quasi-discount FlyDubai.

I can’t imagine anyone choosing to fly to Istanbul with Air Transit over Turkish though.
