In terms of the buildings, I'm not sure who actually built their other stuff. I don't know if Shindico owns it or someone else. If Shindico themselves will own these buildings, I hold zero hope. If someone else just buys the land and owns the buildings (which seems like it may be the case) there is hope. But based on the general layout and such, it will be very Park City Commons like. Retail out front, transition to residential in the back. Which from architecture, urbanism point of view is not that great. But it does have some density. Both next to industrial type places.
Paddington Station auto compound is part of the only CN/CPKC interchange point in Winnipeg. It makes it easier for all the car hauling companies (Hansen, Key West, Searail etc) to have one central point for vehicle pickup and delivery to the railways.

I remember many years (50+) ago there was a new car rail compound just off Mission by Plinquet but I can't remember if it was served by CN or CP.

That again was another result of those Hydro lines being cost prohibitive to relocate.

Where did you see this? Any renderings or variances yet?

I'm more disappointed with the Refinery District in how much of site coverage is parking lots.

Here's a Collier ad for some of the light industrial plots on the north end of Refinery, but they have the site plans for all the current residential.

It's downright depressing for a touted TOD development to have had that much of the space allowed for site coverage by parking. Just visually it verges on 50%, when I'd expect buildings to be at least 50-60% and parking maybe <25%. How many more housing units could have fit in there if they had stricter zoning requirements for site usage. Yes underground parking costs more, but developers could have certainly made up some of those costs with denser builds.
At this link. It's in the corner of map part. This is at the Refinery District, not Watertower District.

When they did some paving work about 5 years ago at the Paddington lot, CPKC did not want to participate (Ie: pay for anything) since they had other plans. So the project left out some work adjacent to the CPKC owned tracks.

In more recent times, CPKC has being investigating new auto compounds throughout western Canada. Haven't heard anything on that in a while though.

Have they done other projects that give you hope about the "higher aesthetic standard"?
Actually... I know nothing about Olexa haha. I'm only assuming they build nicer things because the design bar for Shindico is so frickin' low. Virtually anybody else must be better, right? RIGHT?

Just looking at the Olexa drone footage on their website, does the "historic water tower" get restored with a new exterior paint job, or will it just rust away as time goes by?

It would look good with the tank being repainted and the lettering redone

Who comes up with these street names? Haven't we learned that naming streets after people is a bad idea. Name the streets after trees or animals or something like that. The streets named after people are also long and hard to pronounce.

Probably prominent members of the Franco community here. Duguay needs no explanation. Diallo is and extremely common Guinean and Chadian name, both Francophone countries.

This site in the refinery district marked for a 17 story tower was instead approved for three multi-family apartment buildings of six storeys each, with a total of 208 dwelling units. This development is Phase 2 of Iron Clad’s Crossing development.

Disappointing but not surprising. The proposed district has a very suburban design there are no other tall residential buildings nearby, so it's not really a logical location for a 17-story residential tower. Much cheaper (more profitable) to build 6-story buildings.

Ibrahima Diallo is from Senegal originally and is very involved in the Winnipeg immigrant and Francophone communities serving on different boards and committees.

My late father has been on the list of reserved street names for East Kildonan/Transcona for probably 30+ years, but apparently the developers don't have to use those names if they don't want to.

In my dad's case there is already a Lewis street in Osborne Village so they needed to use his first and last name to make it unique. I don't think W. Lewis bay, street, ave etc would work.

Somebody for sure would forget to use the W and things would go to the village or the delivery people would be looking for a "west Lewis" address which does not exist.

Going back to current topics, the street names never really bothered me. Sure, they're named after people, but frankly, I don't see the issue here. At the end of the day, all the street names in this city are literally nouns.

Maybe we should start naming our streets with verbs, like "Fast Street" or "Waiting Way."

The purpose of this rezoning was to move some of the approved density on site to this corner.

So that means a potential actual tower then.
