There's nothing to do around there, lackluster lighting setup that hardly rivals a front yard in the burbs. Imagine 108st lined with restaurants, stores and shops then you'd have a great anchor at the end with a skating rink on the plaza as originally planned. You could really create a destination. But it's none of those things.

Grandin neighborhood is across 109street from all this, there are residential buildings along 106st, 105st, 104st just east of all this along the hillside. Where are those residents at?

A few years ago i went to Vivid Sydney, absolutely spectacular. Imagine a month long downtown wide light display, use the winter darkness to your advantage. Have performances inside fed building lobby, inside the legislature building, some outdoors along 108th if the weather permits. Put a skating rink and fire pit on that barren plaza. A little imagination can give people a reason to put down their phones and come visit the area; at least more reason than the home depot reindeers currently offer.

Without any activation or programming, there's very little draw to the space, except to see some lights? That'd be my guess.

But even those who live around it, literally nobody on the streets anywhere.

As for the Leg, you could walk, explore, catch the lights you missed at Xmas, go for dinner or a drink nearby at The Marc, Common, the new Korean joint, etc.

It's remarkable how quiet this part of Downtown is on a nice evening.

Had a tour of Falcon I today. Far more sophisticated than Icon or Fox with a huge variety of unit layouts, nice interiors, awesome gym, yoga room, shared and private office working spaces and an amazing rooftop lounge with incredible views, BBQ and social spaces. Overall quite impressive as an urban living option.

Part of the missing link in Edmonton's next urban revolution.

I'd rather have control over my property, than to give my money to some landlord to tell me what I can or can't do.
The cost of home ownership vs renting will always favour the renter, now or in the past. However, the benefits of owning your own place are more than just monetary investment gains.
The article treats housing as if its only an investment tool, not a place to live.

Hello BetterInfillers—

This Saturday BetterInfill is hosting a live discussion and QnA with Larry Beasley, Canada’s most renowned urban planner. Larry is a strong advocate of neighbourhood engagement in urban planning, believing that people have a right to a voice in how change is managed in their neighbourhoods. You may know of Larry from his webinars with us.

Larry will be projected live onto a screen and people in the room will have a chance to ask questions. What is reasonable to expect in neighbourhood planning? How can neighbours organize? What is neighbourhood-led planning? What works and what doesn’t? There’s no end to the topics.

Larry will field questions and share a lifetime of experience to take back to your neighbourhood.

There are about a dozen spaces still open. BetterInfill is covering the cost so there is no charge. Meet and linger in person with other concerned citizens.

The session is this Saturday, June 14, from 2-4 pm in the upper hall at Belgravia Community League, 116 Street and 74 Avenue.

Register by email to [email protected]. Space is limited.

THIS WILL BE AMAZING.

--The Team at BetterInfill

Larry Beasley is why over half of Vancouver, the most expensive city in Canada and one of the top 10 in the world, is still covered exclusively by single family homes.

NIMBYs gonna NIMBY, especially those that own expensive, big houses in Belgravia lol
