I love the bay windows but that's got to be a pain in the ass for the window washers. Anyone know if they design a different type of rig for these type of windows, or do the washers just have to lean forward farther?

Thanks! And you're right, that is interesting-- reminds me of the recent Bank of America tower. I'm a fan of how clean it looks tbh

Anyway here's some more pics from Sat and Sun:

If you look closely, you can see it starting to pop into the North Ave beach skyline!

I just noticed how this facade design resembles 1555 N Astor... designed by SCB in 1975. It's one of those background buildings on the north lakefront.

The facade of 400NLSD is nice, I guess, and the material palette is elegant but nothing that hasn't been done before. The massing is the real showstopper here, that cascade of setbacks at the top will be super dramatic when completed.

Yeah, I kinda agree with this. I keep looking at the photos of this as it's going up.... and not getting super into it yet. But when I think about those setbacks, that's when I get excited.....

It's always worth remembering how much setbacks can define a building. If it wasn't as important as facade, then we wouldn't have the tallest building in Chicago originally conceived from a pack of cigarettes.....

Good pics BVictor1!

That crane is pretty huge now after the jump-- feels good having a nice tall crane right on the lakefront for all the tourists to see haha. There's a "propaganda" aspect to skyscrapers, especially when they're under construction

I used to think the first city in the USA to build a 2k footer would definitely be Chicago.

I was able to take the drone out this weekend and get a video of the progress. Enjoy!

Site prep on the second tower? It kind of look like where they are digging shows the where the second tower would be.

Highly doubtful. As far as I know, the second tower doesn't have permits or financing yet.
I'm thinking the work might be related to the subterranean garage or the drop-off plaza?

It won't. The developers here are far too cheap. Relentlessly focusing on value engineering the life out of every design.

These designs were sold to the Alders, neighborhood, and Plan Commission on the basis that a height reduction would be offset by quality materials. Then those materials were VE'd out of the final plans and the height cut down again.

There's zero interest in quality ... let alone height.
