I now see that rrskylar has been banned.
I know his posts have often been sour, controversial even borderline or more racist so no surprise.

His SSP forum contract was not renewed for 2024.

It's been a long time coming, and personally wanted him gone for a very long time.

Definitely a curmudgeon of sorts, and always going against the grain. At least he was consistent.

Contributed very little to the conversations other than the typical politicking and let's be honest, racist comments over the years. Even if it's borderline racist, it's still racist. Yet, he somehow manages to weasel himself out of not being banned until then.

Anyway...

Those new proposals for the hotel and conference centre would help.

Haven't heard much progress overall lately (haven't driven by that area myself as of late), but at least there's progress behind the scenes.

It would be really nice if there was some announcements regarding residential buildings. The article says the first buildings that will be built are a gas station, strip mall, and office building. As if Winnipeg needs more gas stations, strip malls and office buildings. Build some residential already!

Apparently calling it Kapyong is offensive and frowned upon now.

This is how it was to roll out. Starts with a gas station, hotel, whatever. The main residential components to come after.

Does anyone know when Canada Lands starts their bit? Their third is separate from Treaty One and as a Crown Corp, you'd think they'd be going gangbusters on building residential to follow governmental housing priorities.

I thought they( someone I dont know) was doing site servicing work out there. Maybe it was just design phase. But seems like things should be picking up in the next couple years. If they're waiting for Kenaston to be widened. Just cancel the porject.

Because the Fed Government does not own the land any more?

Being First Nation land the tribal council probably want it referred to as Naawi-Oodena which is the name they gave it.

I sure hope they're classy about it though. Kapyong and Fort Osborne before it has been home to many of Canada's most decorated regiments for a very long time. If anywhere could use a nice, showy memorial, it's that site as the longtime home of the Second Battalion PPCLI, LdSH(RC), FGH, etc.

I still the CAF should have kept at least part of it for a brand new armoury since the current ones are pretty ancient.

The memorial could be done on the Canada Lands portion if there was the political will for it.

Probably not as it may offend some group somewhere in Winnipeg as glorifying war.

Yikes. The plan listed block A as "Commercial mixed-use," but this looks like truck stop.

Edit: Am I reading this right? How in god's holy name will building 5 sheds and a low rise office building take 4 years?

I feel like we're headed in the wrong direction with this one. I knew the plan wasn't dense enough in th first place, but the buildings depicted in these renderings belong in Headingley.

Brutal. I think the military base was denser than this.
