That means they can do out-and-backs with the remaining destinations without any RONs or YKF hotel stays.

I wonder what charter flying they’ve secured?

Which airlines in Canada have ordered the Max 10? Now that the new Boeing CEO has indicated a move towards getting them certified by year’s end, when is a realistic date that airlines in Canada could start receiving these orders?

Westjet has 42 firm orders and option for 22 more.

Airbus received a new A220-100 order! Air Tahiti Niugini have ordered two additional 221s to go with their existing 4 221s and 3 leased 223s.

It is good seeing AirFrance/KLM and Delta becoming part owners of WestJet. Perhaps they can send some of their training people over to WestJet stations.

Not certain if its me or the Victoria Airport but post COVID the WestJet agents at the airport have had very poor training in being able to deal with any anything out of the ordinary when it comes to a code share/interline ticket.

Different airport, but again the same problem.

Another B.C. couple reports being denied boarding, then listed as no-shows by airline

When they arrived at the WestJet desk in Kelowna the next day, however, WestJet’s representative was also unable to check them in, due to what Noble described as an apparent technical error.

Under the WestJet agent’s direction, Noble called KLM, which redirected her back to WestJet.

At one point, Noble said she attempted to hand her phone, with the KLM representative on the line, to the WestJet representative at the desk, but both representatives said they weren’t authorized to speak to each other.

The Nobles ultimately spent two hours standing at the check-in desk in the Kelowna airport, going back and forth with a KLM representative on the phone and the WestJet representative in person, but neither airline provided a solution.

Nobles were forced to buy new last-minute tickets to Amsterdam, through WestJet, for just over $5,000.

She said that while KLM has been apologetic, the company said that in order to process the claim, it required “a certificate from WestJet indicating the reason they couldn’t check us in.”

Several attempts to get a certificate from WestJet resulted in monthly updates informing them that they were in a queue. Then about two weeks ago, Noble said she received an email from WestJet indicating the airline couldn’t process their claim because WestJet’s records indicated the couple were no-shows.

As our country looks for more trade, I hope we see an expansion of the air-services agreement between Canada and Saudi Arabia. At present, Saudi carriers are limited to just four weekly flights. With Riyadh Air set to begin service in the coming months, I imagine the Kingdom is eager to negotiate an expanded arrangement.

Personally hoping for a future Saudia JED-YUL service (maybe 3x weekly 787s). It would undoubtedly facilitate pilgrimage and business travel. Would help lower expensive fares to the region a bit too.

If WS ever orders more 787's, I guess they can start up YYC-BOG

https://otc-cta.gc.ca/eng/ruling/a-2025-96

Quote:
Determination No. A-2025-96
May 29, 2025
Application by WestJet (applicant) to amend condition 1 of licence 180038 in order to operate a scheduled international service between Canada and Colombia using its own aircraft, pursuant to subsection 69(1) of the Canada Transportation Act, SC 1996, c 10 (CTA)

Case number:
25-27301
On July 3, 2018, the Canadian Transportation Agency (Agency) granted WestJet the authorization, in Determination A-2018-147, to operate its scheduled international service, large aircraft, through code sharing, on the route(s) between Canada and Colombia in accordance with the Arrangement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the Republic of Colombia set out in a Memorandum of Consultations, signed on March 16, 2012 (Arrangement).

WestJet now wishes to operate its scheduled international service with its own aircraft.

WestJet holds valid insurance and the Canadian Air Operator Certificate for the proposed operation.

Condition 1 of the licence 180038 now reads:

The Licensee is authorized to operate a scheduled international service on the route or routes set out in the Arrangement.

There's enough slack in the schedule to fly YYC-BOG in the winter months. They currently only have daily YYC-LHR/CDG/NRT/CUN/PVR planned for W25/26 which leaves 2 787s unused at this point.

Also I think Sunwing operated to Colombia from YUL or YYZ? Perhaps this is to cover that on WS.

Sunwing flew YUL-ADZ this past winter season. It’s mostly likely related to Sunwing ops to ADZ, or even a potential CTG route.

It don’t believe it is just training - they also seem to have done a poor job with systems. On more than one occasion I have seen them re-check-in all connecting passengers in the middle of a journey with a connection. That’s no excuse, though. If they wanted to stay independent, fine. If they want to sell connecting tickets they’d better be able to deliver on that…

Porter inaugurated YUL-EWR yesterday.

I also see that Flair's sun destinations have indeed been scrubbed from the schedule at YKF.

In fact F8 this fall out of YKF are down to just YHZ and YYC and from November onward only YKF-YHZ out of YKF this winter. Drops to 2x weekly from 29DEC25 before increasing to 3x weekly in March. I assume at the very least YVR, YYC and YEG will return for summer 2025 from those respective bases. Will be interesting to see whether YXX also returns.

PD announced that YUL-EWR once daily will be extended to year-round.

New carrier and destination for YUL.

https://www.aeroroutes.com/eng/250602-s6jul25ca

Quote:
Sunrise Airways from July 2025 plans to launch service to Canada, on board Airbus A320 aircraft. The airline currently lists 1 weekly Cap-Haitien – Montreal nonstop flight from 05JUL25 to 26OCT25.

S6616 CAP1230 – 1630YUL 32S 6
S6615 YUL0800 – 1200CAP 32S 7
Must be with a leased aircraft, as Sunrise doesn’t have an A320 in their fleet at the moment.

No airline currently operates from Montreal to Haiti. TS plans to resume YUL-PAP in September, 1x weekly as well, assuming they follow through with it. Security is a concern in PAP. I think it’s less of an issue in CAP.

I think CAP is the 160th destination for YUL.

I see there's an AC 333 scheduled tomorrow from YHM to YUL: https://www.aircanada.com/flifo/flight-details?f=2332&t=20250604&o=YHM&c=AC&l=en&dataSource=ODH - some sort of charter?

It seems pretty clear Riyadh Air will be another subsidized gulf carrier that would steal a lot of long haul trips from Air Canada. Not much upside for Canada in expanding the agreement.

According to this article, YKF handled 523,210 pax in 2024 = +17.9%. HOWEVER, that also includes AC bus pax from 01MAY-31DEC24. There's six AC Landline coach roundtrips daily and the coaches seat 36 pax. Assuming a 50% LF on the buses, it means the number of non-flying pax at YKF in 2024 was in the 46,224 range, meaning the actual number of flying pax handled was more like 476,986 (or less).
