Well they are partnering with the First Nations on the St Paul's site and it isn't zone constrained like the Molson site. And they bought it in 2016 so it hasn't been that long.

They're installing more of the brown copper paneling on the side the webcam is pointed at.

The Nexus building will be small in comparison to the hospital campus, but strategically located.

I wonder how they plan on getting occupancy by Q3 2025. Seems tight even though the majority of the structure is complete.

Presumably they can finish sooner, as it's offered as strata units, so there will be minimal finishing and service provision. They've started adding cladding and glazing on the lower floors, but Q3 does seem ambitious.

s they're presumably hoping to lease office space to doctors and medical services, they may not need to worry about finishing too promptly as the hospital won't be occupied any time soon.

The last tower crane has gone from the first building. Two of the three drilling rigs have been removed from site for the Research Building, so excavation is next.

Some embarrassing allegations for a gov't project:

Union claims exploitation of temporary foreign workers at St. Paul’s Hospital construction site
By Cecilia Hua
Posted May 22, 2025 10:18 am.

While construction is well under way at the new St. Paul’s Hospital site in Vancouver, a local union is raising red flags, claiming that temporary foreign workers are being exploited.

“We suspect they are not getting what they deserve,” BC Insulators Local 118 business manager Rob Sheck told CityNews.

According to the union, employees of an Ontario-based subcontractor approached representatives and alerted them of the situation.

“He ended up having a conversation with one of them, he did say, yes, they were on a student or tourist visa,” Sheck explained.

The union alleges there are around a dozen workers who are employed by Legends Insulation at the St. Paul’s construction site currently who do not hold the proper work permits and are getting paid substandard wages.

“We got some pay stubs showing $18 or $19 an hour, and that they were on work permits. If they were under a proper LMIA application, the wage is considerably higher than that, maybe $26 or $28 an hour,” Sheck said.

Under federal labour and immigration laws, an employer must obtain a Labour Market Assessment Impact (LMIA) before hiring a foreign worker....

How can someone smile so broadly with that amount of shft in his teeth?
That assumes you'd hire them. Even fully ticketed and certified you'd never even consider the option. You're just a Union goon stirring up trouble because it's not your workers on the site.

That kind of 🞵🞵🞵🞵 undermines everybody, not just unions. If this story is true, that company should be heavily punished.

Agree. That kind of activity at any work place, gets me red faced , be it union or non union and especially goverment projects which requires workers be paid fair wage.
Gorverment projects pay the big bucks to winning contractors, on the expectation that the workers will be well paid so that our tax payers money is proportionally well allocated back into the system/society.
In 1996 I was a laborer making $10 an hour, then worked on a school and hospital projet (seismic upgrading), my paid when from $10 to fair wage $23.90 an hour for laboring work.

St Paul's isn't a government project. It's being developed by Providence Healthcare, with funding coming from the St Paul's Foundation, the Provincial Government, and from the sale of the existing St Paul's to Concord Pacific. That doesn't excuse the need for oversight of the contractor and sub-contractors, and who they employ to meet acceptable employment practices.

Speak for yourself; I'd prefer if my tax dollars went to the lowest bidder with the expectation that they can maintain a minimum construction standard. The allocation of taxpayer money back to society should be in the form of the finished project, not those paid along the way.

I don't often get into a verbal Wimbleton...but I will always fight for higher wages for the little guy, because it's the hardest thing for people to hand out, when billionaires are hesitant in doing it, everyone else will also be lessgiving.
Young people don't want to live with their parents their whole life and would prefer an independent and fulfilling lifestyle.

All I have to say is I think there's a world of difference between a profit oriented project and a public service project. There are no billionaires investing in this project trying to screw the little guy out of wages, its our limited tax dollars being spent that if spent irresponsibly slows down or prevents other important public amenities from being built.
