Considering they closed Sir Adam Beck, Wheable, Thames and Ross high schools over the last 40 years and built a number of new Catholic high schools during the same time period, not that strange at all. In fact prior to the last population surge that happened after 2015 the projections for school aged kids in the public board was to see 15,000 fewer kids in the public board across all grades. Still to this day we have the boards and province afraid to close under capacity schools while schools in new younger demographic neighbourhoods have playgrounds full of portable classrooms to meet the union demands for smaller class sizes. You now have inner city school busing in order to reduce the pressures and keep enrolment up in under capacity buildings. Just of cascade of bags of money being thrown at the domino effect of bad decisions and management and lack of courage and planning.

In other words SNAFU and FUBAR are the operating principles.

I never really thought too much about the high schools but it is strange now to think about it. I know a few have had some extensive renovations over the years, like Beal, Clarke Road and Saunders to a lesser extent, but they didn't make them any larger. Those were the 3 largest high schools in London in my day in the 80's and were 7000 students between them. Beal was almost 3000 itself, Saunders was well over 2000 and Clarke Road was 1800. I'd be surprised if there was much more than 4000 in those 3 today.

But look at the Catholic side, and back then there was CCH and RMC. Now there's 5 I think, if you include the French one in Hyde Park?

Construction of the new elementary school at the NE corner of Regiment and Pack Rd is progressing with masonry contractor wrapping up the exterior brick on the south side.

St. Andre Bessette may be named after a Quebecois saint, but it is not a French Catholic High School (English).

My daughter goes to Mother Teresa Secondary, even though we live in Hyde Park, on account of us wanting her to finish her French immersion (my son went there as well, but he's now at UWO).

The new elementary school in the Jackson subdivision is making good progress with pouring the foundation footing walls. Looks like Wellington Builders out of Lambton County won the contract to build this school.

Exterior brick on the east side of the new elementary school up in Fox Hollow is now installed. They have also now poured the parking lot curbs, driveway and walkways. Grading for pavement up next.

Pouring the concrete curbing for the parking lot on the south side of the new school at Regiment and Pack Rd. Masonry contractor continues to work on installing exterior brick on the west side of the building.

Almost finished building the concrete block walls of the new Regina Mundi Catholic HS. Appear to have finished all the interior walls and the last few sections on the south end now being wrapped up. Should see the window framing going in soon.

The new elementary school at the NE corner of Regiment and Pack Rd has nearly finished the exterior brick installation with just a small section of the north side left. Exterior cladding is also nearly complete. They have now paved the south side parking lot and completed landscaping and sod installation. Interior work is also progressing with lightning and drop ceilings being installed. This may well be ready in time for the start of the school year in Sept.

The masonry contractor has finished up the exterior brick installation on the new Northwest Public Elementary School on Buroak Dr. The parking lot is now paved and the play area. Still have some minor exterior trim to complete. Interior is also far along with lightning installed and painting. Should be ready to open in Sept. The new Catholic Elementary school a couple of hundred meters away now appears to have 4 portables setup for the new school year.

PEC mtg on Aug 12th for either a secondary school or residential zoning on Sunningdale Rd West. If a secondary school is built that would see 4 schools within driving range of each other of a good golfer on the north side of Fox Hollow subdivision. School Board planning at its finest.

They are moving fast to install the sod and landscaping for the new Northwest Elementary School up in Fox Hollow ahead of school opening in a few weeks.
