The Chong is dead, long live The Chong! It was seriously one of the strangest stores I had ever been to. It was "going out of business" for well over a decade and had all sorts of weird 🞵🞵🞵🞵 like camcorders from the 90s still in their original packaging.

A fun bit of movie history - the penthouse to the Orpheum Lofts in Phoenix, the former Phoenix Title & Trust building, is up for sale. It includes the rooftop deck, which is location from which Hitchcock shot the opening scene of 'Psycho.' Overpriced, but maybe worth attending an open house for the view.

My father-in-law lived in a 40-ft. RV for several years. It had been a trailer used for on-site filming and so it was compliant with California Occupational Safety and Health standards. That is why it had dual 12,000 BTU air conditioners and a sky-lit shower half the size of my current bathroom. It was the perfect bachelor pad for an old dude, and because it was movable, he got to park it right on an undammed river and spend the day drinking beer and fishing.

I saw this story on TV a couple of weeks ago and I didn't get why it's an issue... Is there something inherently wrong with mobile homes as a housing type? Sure, people won't accrue equity from ownership but it's a roof over their head just like any other type of housing.

It’s definitely getting increasingly popular to live in a RV especially from what I’ve seen in the Desert Southwest. Not that there hasn’t already been a major RV culture in the region but there’s a new demographic interested in the life. Young adults and early middle age folks seem to be putting a significant amount of content about the life.

An RV in terms of an investment in a home is by itself a worse investment than a mobile home the engine adds another dimension that wears out lowering the value of the investment. However some people are buying off grid type properties. Living on the property usually for the winter while traveling in the summer. Or using the RV as temporary housing until they build a home. Either way I was surprised by the seeming amount of people developing off the grid style farms.

Some really interesting videos from this very active monsoon season dealing in permaculture. Slowing the flow of water across the surface of the land to soak it up for use in reversing desertification, more water for a well to tap and a balance of the lot. Setting up a small farm, planting native grasses, plants and trees to build up biomass in degraded land as well as creating water storage areas that are fed by runoff that would otherwise wash away top soil.

As far as real estate goes in Metro Detroit I’m becoming more and more fond of St Clair County and the Port Huron area. For a Great Lakes City with a lot of waterfront the Lake Huron coast is the only place in the region that has the same crystal clear water and large sandy beaches that Chicago and Milwaukee have. The city has made a good amount of progress with its downtown and the area has remained affordable at a time when the Detroit Metro in the past couple years has seen its inventory of great deals shrink.

The whole region has seen its prices shoot up especially last year with the traditionally most desirable areas not at the insane levels the majority of the country is seeing but affordable homes in these areas are few now.

Suppose it’s not surprising even politicians like former long time Oakland County Executive L Brooks Patterson saw the need for a regional investment strategy. The city of Detroit back from the dead and continuing to make progress has the region as a whole seeing the kind of outside interest and investment not seen since the 90s & early 2000s.

Last weekend I talked to a landlord whose most recent tenant had wallpaper installed on several walls without asking him. The "improvement" wasn't discovered until the landlord had to visit the property months later.

This is a bit of a whopper of a story, I mean...what sort of person lays out thousands of dollars to hire a wallpaper guy in a rental unit? Does this tenant have money to burn, and if so, why not buy a house or at least rent a nicer unit?

I've talked about this earlier. It's an excelent news, as even though SP real estate is expensive, it's nowhere near problematic as places like San Francisco, New York or London.

For context, São Paulo population only grew by 180,000 between 2010 and 2022 census.

You gotta be kidding, right? My partner showed me a bunch of these short videos and we were both laughing and appalled at the same time. I doubt the two of us would even fit in these tiny apartments. Where would we put our stuff? Our bed and nightstands? Our desk? Our dining room table and chairs? Our sofa and coffee table and end tables??

Pretty classist that the video guy doesn't like tiny units. If people can't afford a bigger place, they should live in the gutter instead? Sorry your highness.

PS, I always have to remind myself that "real estate" only means residential real estate. The rest of the real estate world would beg to differ.

The church looks good but I hope they do something with that parking lot!

Not everyone needs that stuff.

In my 20's, I had no use for anything in housing except for a bed, shower and sink. I was working 80-100 hour weeks at times, and the rest of the time I'd either be sleeping, traveling or out and about town. For a while I didn't have a TV, a table or even a couch. I didn't have kitchen utensils. Laundry services handled cleaning clothes. I don't think I ate a real meal in my apartment for maybe five years.

I now have a spouse and a kid, but if I were single, I'd be fine in 400 sq. ft., assuming a central location in NYC.

...have you never heard of a studio apartment before? Why are you acting so brand new as if living in small spaces is absolutely unheard of? These small units obviously aren't meant for 2 people with lots of stuff, but they work fine for some people.
