Very cool - I spent many an hour in/at that plaza. Before it was Alamo Drafthouse, that was a "Handy Andy" grocery store (at least it was back in the 1970's). I worked there as a bag boy, checker, stocker, and did some reps in the produce and meat departments, too.
Better, I spent -many- an hour in Ray Hennig's legendary Heart of Texas ("HOT") guitar/music store. Ray was the coolest - he treated everyone the same, whether they were punk kids (like I was) or accomplished artists. In fact, when you went in there, it wasn't totally out of the ordinary to see and hear some of Austin's best guitarists. I was in the store when Stevie Ray Vaughn was having some equipment repaired/adjusted and I've heard that Eric Johnson was a regular back in those days, too, although I never saw him at Ray's.
Coincidentally, Eric was the lead guitarist in an early 70s band called "Electromagnets". My sister's boyfriend, Jay Atchinson (sic) was the drummer for that band for at least a short period of time. My sister enlisted the aid of Eric to help my Mom buy me my first guitar pedal - a Rotosound Phase 1 phaser or "phase shifter" (which I still have!).
Good memories - I was sorry to see that plaza go...
