Senators' owner Michael Andlauer sends message to NCC officials

He also squashes rumours the Belleville Senators will move to Hamilton and says they're "here to stay".

==SNIP==

Though Andlauer discussed a number of topics during the interview, he also took time to squash any talk the club’s American Hockey League affiliate in Belleville will be on the move.

There have been reports that Andlauer will sell the Ontario Hockey League’s Brantford Bulldogs in the coming weeks to Edmonton Oilers’ forward Zach Hyman and his family. Hamilton-based CHCH network reported that the deal was all but official on Thursday night.

“I’m not a social media but I get the feedback. Our media guys get back (to him) and when I hear things that are not right sometimes I like to speak up because I owe it to my fans,” Andlauer said.

The second part of the talk making rounds was that Andlauer would then move the Belleville Senators to Hamilton. He made it clear that’s not going to happen and wore a ‘613’ area code hat during the segment to let fans know he’s committed to making this organization a success.

In 2015, Andlauer purchased the OHL’s Belleville Bulls and moved that franchise to Hamilton. That’s not going to happen with the AHL team and he wanted to make sure the people of Belleville understood that.

“That’s why I’m wearing the ‘613’ hat,” he said. “Six one three is Sens’ country. It’s strategic to be in Belleville and Belleville is here to stay.

“As far as I’m concerned they’re great fans, very similar to what Brantford has in the OHL. Maybe some of the rumour (about selling Brantford) is true, but the one part that’s not true is that Belleville is there to stay. I’m looking forward to spending a lot more time in Belleville.”

The expectation is the sale of Brantford will be announced after it’s approved by the OHL’s board of governors on Monday.

Erin Crowe leaving Ottawa Senators for position with Canada Soccer

Marissa Galko, OBJ
March 12, 2025

Erin Crowe, who has worked with the Ottawa Senators for 20 years, most recently as executive vice-president, chief financial officer and chief operating officer, is leaving the hockey club to join Canada Soccer, the sport’s governing body said in a press release on Tuesday.

Crowe, an Ottawa native, will take up the roles of CFO and COO with Canada Soccer starting in April.

“As someone with a passion for soccer and for sport in Canada, I am thrilled to join Canada Soccer and contribute to the tremendous work being done to promote and develop the sport in Canada. I look forward to working with the talented team here and to support our vision and help elevate the game across the country at such an important time,” Crowe said in the press release.

Crowe has been both a fan and an “engaged participant” in the soccer community, especially in Ottawa, including on the board of the West Ottawa Soccer Club, according to Canada Soccer’s press release.

“Erin is an accomplished and experienced executive with a track record of success in sports, private sector finance, and organizational operations. In addition, her passion for grassroots soccer makes her an ideal leader to join our dedicated senior staff,” Kevin Blue, CEO and general secretary of Canada Soccer, said in the release.

Crowe was hired in 1996 by the Senators as vice-president of finance and was promoted to CFO several years later. She left the Sens in 2015 and then resumed working with the team in 2022 as CFO and EVP, adding the COO title a year later.

“This was a bittersweet day because Erin has provided significant financial and operational leadership within our organization over the years. Many of us know that Erin’s passion for the Senators is only rivalled by her love for soccer and we know that Canada Soccer will benefit greatly from her leadership. I will miss Erin’s leadership and organizational strength, I want to wish her well in this exciting new role and challenge,” Cyril Leeder, president of the Ottawa Senators, said in an email to OBJ.

Crowe leaves her role with the Sens just as the team is in the midst of negotiations surrounding the purchase of land at LeBreton Flats, which would allow a new arena to be built closer to the downtown core.

OBJ spoke with Crowe in October about the team’s plan to work with local businesses to solidify relationships as the team works to move forward with LeBreton plans.

Crowe was recognized as 2022 CFO of the Year by the Ottawa Business Journal and Ottawa Board of Trade.

Wow, really one hurdle after another for Andlauer, Leeder and co.

As if dealing with the NCC, political instability, and economic uncertainty hasn't been enough for them, they are now dealt this blow.

Hoping this isn't a bad omen. Last time we had a point person for the LeBreton negotiations leave, the deal collapse within months.

Playoffs, finally! Ottawa Senators reward their fans' patience
Eight years of frustration is erased with the team back in the NHL playoffs for the first time since 2017.

By Ken Warren, Ottawa Citizen
Published Apr 08, 2025 | Last updated 36 minutes ago

<snip>

The Senators officially clinched a spot in the National Hockey League playoffs on Tuesday night despite losing 5-2 to the Columbus Blue Jackets — thanks to the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 defeat against the Montreal Canadiens — ending a postseason absence dating back to May 26, 2017.

Way back in 2017, the Senators lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in double overtime of Game 7 of the NHL’s Eastern Conference final, falling one shot short of a trip to the Stanley Cup final against the Nashville Predators.

Since returning to the NHL in 1992-93, the Senators have only once advanced to the Stanley Cup final, losing in 2007 to the Anaheim Ducks in five games.

In other news, Andlauer liquidating assets, presumably for the next steps at LeBreton.

Really wish he didn't sell to UPS; they 🞵🞵🞵🞵!

Senators owner Michael Andlauer sells Andlauer Healthcare Group to UPS

AHG sells for a whopping $1.6 billion U.S.

Bruce Garrioch, Postmedia
Published Apr 24, 2025

Ottawa Senators owner Michael Andlauer has made a big move off the ice.

United Parcel Service announced on Thursday morning that it has acquired Andlauer’s Toronto-based Andlauer Healthcare Group for a whopping $1.6 billion U.S.

The deal is worth approximately $2.2 billion Canadian and comes 18 months after Andlauer closed on a $950 million U.S. purchase of the Senators and a group of partners in Sept. 2023.

Under the terms of the agreement, AHG shareholders will receive $55 CAD each for their shares.

It’s also interesting to note that this move comes as the Senators try to close a deal with the National Capitalo Commission to purchase 10 acres of land at LeBreton Flats to build a brand new arena.

The news release says Andlauer will remain in his current role with the company.

“Post-acquisition, Michael Andlauer is slated to lead UPS Canada Healthcare and AHG to further their specialized capabilities and cater to the healthcare industry’s needs,” the press release said. “UPS Healthcare and AHG employees are noted for their shared customer-centric cultures and emphasis on quality.”

UPS said it “will benefit from AHG’s temperature-controlled facilities and specialized transportation capabilities, enhancing its service offerings across Canada.”

Good for him, 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 for the employees. UPS kills every non-courier business they get into. Give it a few years and they will be selling this part of the business off to the company that Andlauer sold the other part of ATS to, Transforce (who also bought UPS Freight several years ago). Or maybe to Purolator, which also entered the refrigerated healthcare business a couple years ago itself.

Wonder if Andlauer will use any of these proceeds to buy out some of the Sens investors he had to bring on board to buy the team before he gets too deep into the weeds with the arena project. I don't think we ever did hear what percentage of the Sens he owned but I'm thinking it was in the 50% plus range, not a huge majority, but of course, it's very possible I'm wrong on that too.

UPS is a terrible service. They hold up your package until you pay a ransom. Hopefully won't do that with medical equipment and medication.

You're right, we never heard how the ownership was split, but I imagine Andlauer has 50% +1. The Jeff York group owns 10%. It sounds like the Malhotra's own a decent chunk (maybe 20%?)

Scratch that, sounds like Andlauer purchased an extra 12% in October (from George Armoyan), so I'd estimate 62% right now. That guy was the second largest shareholder, so Malhotras are probably 10%. We established the Melnyks kept 10%.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/ottawa/article/an...cent-stake-in-ottawa-senators-ownership/

Andlauer - 62%
Jeff York Group - 10%
Malhotras - 10%
Melnyks - 10%

The remaining 8% is probably his Toronto partners. Forgot their names, and kind of hard to find.

Oh, and the Sens lost the first three games to the Leafs so far. We beat them nearly every time during the regular season, but we just can't beat them when it counts the most. I guess our first Playoff run in 8 years will be a short one. Hope we can at least win one.

I'm crushed bro. I thought Ottawa has played ok ish. Game 1 we got slaughtered on penalties but had better 5v5 metrics. They ran over us 1st period in game 2 but we did the same to them in the 2nd and probably had a bit of an edge in the 3rd despite not being able to get any shots on net. I wouldn't exactly say we got wiped last night either.

We got destroyed on faceoffs for one thing. I can think of 4 goals off the top of my head as a direct result of a faceoff loss most notably last night for the OT goal.

Toronto has also blocked a ludicrous number of shots. As if Stolarz wasn't already hard enough to beat with his 6'7" frame and playing at the top of his game.

Toronto is also 16-2-1 in their last 19 games. That is a crazy heater to be on in the middle of round 1.

Ullmark getting beat for 2 goals on 3/4 shots in game 1 or 2 did not help matters. He was also sleeping on that 2nd goal last night with the feed from behind the net... can't believe he just kept looking to his right. I don't want to blame Ullmark too much but we didn't get many favors from him if you ask me. .815 save pct. Ouch. Were we really that bad in front of him? I don't think so.

All in all I feel like Ottawa has played well enough to be down 2-1 so with the series basically tanked at this point I was pretty bummed out last night.

2 overtime losses, the Sens can't hang their head in shame for that, could as easily be 2-1 series lead for them. Small consolation for the team or fans (obviously assuming they don't win 4 in a row) but it's not like they have been destroyed the last 2 games.

We've got them right where we want them. The only thing better than beating the leafs is doing it in a reverse sweep.

I was at a conference in Montebello this weekend and it was amazing to see so many Sens fans. Yes there were a few Habs jerseys but almost everyone I talked to were diehard Sens and, more importantly, no Leafs fans to be seen! It's a far cry from the 90's when the majority of people in our region were either Habs or Leafs fans with a smattering of people cheering for Ottawa.

Sens in 7!

We always lament the number of Leaf and Hab fans in our region and some of us feel a tinge of guilt or insecurity about it. I just have to say...the Sens have done an absolutely amazing job of building their fanbase. No other NHL team faces what we face:
  • sandwiched between the 2 biggest hockey markets in the world
  • sandwiched between the 2 biggest cities in Canada
  • sandwiched between 2 original 6 teams
  • a 90 minute drive from Montreal

I think many cities would be hard pressed to build a fanbase with these factors. Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver...all very much the population centre of their respective regions. None of them face the above like we do. Maybe the Islanders do... thats about it.

Completely agree. And not only that, they did an amazing job of filling the building with Sens fans this series. I was at game 3, and the crowd was at best 10% Leaf fans, which is a massive accomplishment in the circumstances. It gave the Sens a real home ice advantage, even better than in Toronto where half the fans left midway through the third.

Hope they can keep up the trend tonight!

Man I'm nervous for tonight! Dragging this series to game 7 would be such an accomplishment in itself. The crowd is gonna be lit!
