Just within a 1/2 mile radius, the last number of posts are being built, and that is just the beginning. A 1200 unit sub-division will soon go through council and public consultation. That should be a go now that they have the new signaled intersections at Countryview and Melody Ln with Malpeque Rd now operational. The 10 Hidden Valley apartments should start soon as well as they have the paved streets and infrastructure in place.

It's time I believe we start looking at a new highway, a 4 lane no stop over-under pass highway.

I’d like to see a highway from Marshfield route 2, behind airport to Brackley Point Road, continuing to route 2 in Milton. Maybe one day it could cross the river to go around Stratford, connecting Marshfield to Hazelbrook at the TCH/48 Road connection.

I’ve proposed that a couple times here. Makes a ton of sense!

Premier Lantz should have pulled Carney to the side and discussed building a new bypass around Charlottetown, 4 lanes to Borden and four lanes to Aulac, NB. I'm sure the bridge tolls collected over the years would have paid for a highway across Canada by now. The TCH system to PEI and on this Island is just so poorly maintained and designed. We need engineers from outside PEI who can design and build roads. This is 2025 and really, nothing has changed! Time to change that!

The problem is the bridge I was built and is operated & maintained by a private company. This contract I believe was for like 50 years, then ownership reverts to the government. All tolls collected over this time help to pay for the construction cost, and maintenance. The provincial or canadian government would essentially have to pay those tolls on islanders behalf’s. I think doing away with the tolls entirely would boost tourism on the island. I lived in Summerside until I was 24 and now I live in Moncton. I would love to go visit more often, but the cost of the bridge is a major deterrent. I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking like this.

As for highways on the island, the Cornwall bypass should have been built as a divided 4 lane highway. Not only that, but about 15 years ago when they redid the whole bypass to make it 4 lanes, they should have built interchanges then. And we’re really only talking about like 4 interchanges, maybe you could get away with 3. Malpeque Road, Brackley Point Road and St. Peter’s road. There would also need to be overpasses built at Kensington Road, and Mount Edward Road with another one potentially being built at the hospital.

Also if you had built the Cornwall bypass on the original ROW, and hit it gone north of the causeway connecting into the Charlottetown bypass, you could have rerouted Route 2 from Brookfield through Warren grove and had it connect to route 1 at a new interchange. This would have eliminated a large amount of traffic in Winsloe.

You could also run a new road from Winsloe to Marshfield to handle traffic that wants to completely bypass the city to the north. I don’t know that this would have to be a controlled access highway IF the Charlottetown bypass was built to controlled access standards.

All good, now all we need is the political element fast forwarding the process but not with the present provincial engineers as we've seen their results. Engineers from NS or NB would be better, without going to Ont or Que. I wonder what century they'll start realizing the Capital Region is growing exponentially and new steps have to be started NOW!

This is a start. At least they are interested which may open the door to a actual store some day.

A former Transport Minister told me a couple months back that the Cornwall bypass alignment to North River is being reviewed by an outside consultant, the roundabout at Warren Grove Road is the main concern right now. Hopefully they at least recommend keeping all the properties to eventually build a new bridge over the North River to connect at Upton Road. Once government sells that land, it’s over.

A crane is up at the new hotel site on Capital Dr. and a crane is up at the apartment site in Winsloe on Malpeque Rd installing the modules.
We should see a crane soon for the Great George and Kent apartments.

I think one of the issues with a connection across the North River would be that It'd likely require demolishing a significant portion of the Cornwall neighbourhood of North River / East Wiltshire, which would NOT go over well and would be extremely disruptive, not to mention it's a quickly growing area. The design of the Cornwall bypass makes it clear there wasn't any real intention of connecting it to the current "terminus" of the Charlottetown bypass at Upton Rd. I suppose they could branch off before the interchange at Cornwall Rd, thus bypassing north river and being smoother, but I highly doubt the government would want to do that either. Why would they want to throw out a new interchange, roundabout, and rebuilding of Capital Dr. If they had any intention on extending it to Upton, they would've made that very clear in the design and planning process.

The provinces owns all the land required to connect to Upton Road. They bought the land back in the 90s. Not a single house would need to go.

I'm just saying.. where would a connection to Upton from the Cornwall bypass go? Either you're putting a highway through North River or going way around, which if they had ANY intention of it would've been in the plans and design to begin with. It's very clear that from the design of the Cornwall Bypass that they didn't intend on extending it to Upton.

I was informed by a friend who lives on King Street, that they have torn down an old house across from 100 King Street. If I remember correctly that lot plus those facing Queen Street were part of a proposal to develop the whole block.

The province owns the land to do this, it’s the original alignment. They changed the route because of the cost to build a new bridge (and probably some opposition from Cows). What I’ve heard, from a former Transport Minister, is that a consultant has been, or will be, hired to evaluate the bypass, mainly due to safety issues at Warren Grove Road.

If you go back decades, the route we have now was preferred, but Warren Grove was going to be an over/under configuration, not a roundabout or set of lights. On the Charlottetown side of the causeway, a road was going to be built through the Experimental Farm to reach where the highway ends now. This was the plan before the Charlottetown bypass was extended from Sears. Thankfully it never happened, because the Experimental Farm and industrial park are great assets.

We could always branch off what’s there now, exit for Cornwall/North River/Charlottetown, keep going for Charlottetown bypass. All I’m saying is that I hope the province never sells this land, because we’ll eventually need a proper connection to the Charlottetown bypass.

Both 91 & 93 King St are now gone. Not sure what's replacing it.

I was over to Cornwall and was turning around and noticed this on the corner of Kingston Rd. Odd looking buildings in that they remind me of military barracks. They could have made them higher to save room and with a better look.
