I'm originally from Corner Brook and have a lot of family and friends in the Long Range Mountains riding. Despite bradshaw being unpopular amongst a vocal bunch online the city still has an older population that will vote liberal for no other reason than its how they've voted for decades. I think bradshaw will pull out a win but it will be close

I noticed that CPC picked up a few seats in the Atlantic provinces purely due to vote split between LPC and NDP.
Why was the vote split happening?

Ps: Or am I reading something wrong?

Not seeing any seats that would really have been impacted by vote splitting in the Atlantic Region.

It does happen, but I hate calling it vote splitting as if the NDP and Libs are the exact same.

Definitely could be the difference maker in a few ridings. Would have made the loss in my own riding sting a lot more.

Not sure what else we can call it, other than vote splitting, since NDP voters pretty overwhelmingly dislike the CPC a lot more than the LPC.

Strategic voting is the only tool we have combat the flaws of the FPTP system.

I normally get up around 5AM, so I went to bed at 10 last night, before most of the polls closed. I would have liked to go to bed with some good news, but instead it was concerning news.

Made for a long and restless night; think I was awake each time my watch beeped the hour.

Thank goodness I had some good news to wake up to in the morning. Not the greatest news, but I can live with it. Especially with the added cherry that PP may have lost his seat.

Pretty brutal. Saint John's really got to grow the population of the West Side to have a say in this riding going forward. The riding will still get some attention because of the port, but not looking forward to have an opposition member for our MP.

I don't agree with Wayne Long (or his party) on a lot of issues but he pushes hard for his riding. I think the port's interests will be well represented in Ottawa.

I have to say that while I'm not overjoyed with the national results, I do take some satisfaction that the appointed candidate Melissa "the parachute" Young was defeated by Long.

Well that was a interesting election. Libs net gained 1 seat in Atlantic Canada with them winning South Shore and Cumberland and the Cons flipping Long Range Mountains. Wayne Long had the best result of his career and none of the rural seats were very close. Also Fredericton was a surprising easy win for David Myles. And to top it all off Pierre Poilievre lost in his seat in Carleton. I'm not super confident in a Lib+NDP government considering that the NDP almost got wiped out but it will be a interesting few months.

Still waiting on the mail-in poll to be counted in Terra Nova. A lot of oilpatch workers, offshore oil workers, and other fly-in-fly-out workers living in the district who may have voted on this mail in ballot, so it could be good for the CPC. Time will tell.

Anyone care to offer their theory at what John Williamson is playing at here? Is it just him trying to shore up the Lorneville vote in the next election? Or is it just because the CPC is not in government, so he's more willing to oppose big projects? He was pretty vocal in his opposition to the Lorneville industrial expansion during the election, but perhaps that is because he saw the writing on the wall (the his party would not be forming the next government) and that this was an easy way to secure votes in Lorneville. Still, I just can't see him posting such fervent opposition to this project had the CPC won and formed government.

To me, it seems like shameless pandering, but it's also perplexing, because as a Conservative, it's just strange that he's so opposed industrial development within the largest city of his riding... it's not like this project being proposed for the middle of Saint Andrews By the Sea or something, so yeah, I guess I'm just surprised he's still so opposed to this project after the election.

Yet, here is our opposition, Conservative MP, sloganeering about a major industrial project like it's still the middle of a campaign. I don't think his support for this cause will last much longer.

CBC is suggesting Wayne Long is getting a cabinet post. I'm guessing it would be one of the second tier Secretary of State positions. I'd be surprised if NB has 3 out of the expected 30 so maybe Petitpas-Taylor is out?

I did somewhat call it, lol, but I doubt he'll be minister of transport. You never know though. I'd say Petitpas-Taylor is out.

I would assume that Wayne Long will have a very high-ranking position in government.

I'm assuming an NL MP will have a cabinet position too, but the options aren't all that enticing for what is going to be a very small cabinet. Osborne is likely the best of the bunch, but he's a brand new MP, so unsure if he'd be given that type of responsibility right away.

If Wayne is to get a cabinet spot i think the best would be wither energy or transportation. With the refinery and the port Wayne represents a riding with major energy and transportation wants, and needs.
I may not be the biggest fan of Wayne but it's good to see Saint John get a cabinet position.
