If Carney had not been in the dying days of an election campaign, I am sure he would have been in Rome too.

The provincial premiers would not have been invited to attend.

Alternatively, if we’d been the 51st State, we would totally have been represented in Rome we’d even have discussed with Macron, Starmer and Zelensky, as the nuclear superpower that we’d have been then.

I can't see anyone having a problem with that.

It's one thing when the CAQ makes it harder for Anglos to deal with the government... but it's beyond the pale when paramedics who can speak English refuse to speak English to people in medical crisis, because they feel emboldened by the anti English policies and outlook of the CAQ.

There's just no defence to taking the anti English stuff this far... it just makes the CAQ look bad. Why can't they focus on constructive ways to protect and promote the French language, without looking like utter fools? Moderating slogans on busses or not letting paramedics speak English to people experiencing a medical crisis doesn't make the CAQ look like defenders of the French language... it just makes them look petty, vindictive, and callous.

Montreal is absolutely being held back by the language laws, and it's a crying shame many Canadians won't even consider moving to Montreal, when it's one of Canada's very best cities... but the province refuses to let Montreal embrace its inherent bilingualism... and that's a crying shame.

Mark Carney is an Irish-Catholic, I don't think anyone is seriously worried about Carney asserting Canada's presence or offending the Vatican/Catholics or whatever it is you're trying to get at here by suggesting he should have went.

If Carney did make that trip, I think it would have been criticized by many as a PR stunt in the middle of a campaign. While the "Catholic vote" is 30% of the Canadian electorate, and upwards of 60% in Quebec... it's not exactly a unified voting bloc... plus a lot of "Catholics" don't even identify with their faith at all.

I'm sure Mark Carney will prioritize an audience with the next pope if he does indeed win the election. Canada isn't an extremely catholic country, but it does have the 20th largest congregation of Catholics on earth, while being the 38th most populous country.

You are really selective in what you respond to, and what you ignore, NB.

Just completely dgaf about how little the CAQ cares about Quebeckers who don't speak French.
