I don't think we'll see this place open until next year. For one thing, this city has a thing with closing footbridges in the winter

As the LRT platforms were supposed to be? I hope it works as planned.

Found out today the fence wasn't really attached to anything.

Sweet. It looks great in the snow. It’s completely absurd that they haven’t opened it yet.

The NCC website now says a Spring 2025 opening. It's officially spring now so I'm guessing by Victoria Day?

Victoria Day? You're generous. I'm calling June 20th.

Kiweki Point had its grand opening today! Well, sort of. Someone pushed the fence out of the way and gaggles of excited people walked through. Photos below. (sorry that they're all out of order.)

Looking forward to seeing sunsets or fireworks from there. They may or may not be wine in my Yeti cup - cannot confirm or deny.

"Fireworks? That's too dangerous, we'll have to close it for your safety"

I saw folks in that park when I drove over the bridge. I was excited to see it open! Is it still open or did they re-close the gate??

I also noticed work has progressed along Lady Grey Drive - can you walk into that construction zone or some over-look to check on the status of it?

Ok then, drone show.

That bridge is WIDE. Should have put markings to separate peds and cyclists.

Tons of people there yesterday. The barriers were still there and pushed over, so it doesn't look officially open. Seems highly unlikely that the fencing would be left in such a jumble, however the "no admittance" sign is no longer on it. Is it possible that the NCC stopped caring that the public has gained access into the site?

I wonder what the deficiencies could be, affecting occupancy?

The railings are ever-so misaligned on the bridge?

Also the railing coatings have already failed, extensive corrosion throughout the vertical picket sections. WHY THE HELL AREN'T THESE GALVANIZED!!!! F*cking people.

From April 2024 NCC Board meeting summary

Quote:
Kìwekì Point is almost finished after four years of work. We’re planning a big opening for early this summer. It’s going to be a place that shows off Canadian pride.
Had to double-check that it was in fact more than a year ago

There were no updates at this year's April meeting.

Sounds like a lot of bridges in the area. Commanda, the one to Carleton..

'Well, we tried to keep them away, honestly we did!'

These don't look particularly in good condition... but at least open the point from the Art Gallery side, even if the bridge requires ROUND 2 of railing installation.

Our 124 year old bridge set to be demolished looks in better shape than most of the infra built over the last decade. in the name of saving a few bucks, we seem to buy junk that won't last the year. The metal tree cages along Queen and Bank are all the same, mangled and corroded. Or the interlock that's falling apart.
