Took the new Blue Grouse Gondola up Grouse for a quick afternoon of spring skiing yesterday and here are my thoughts.

For skiers it's amazing, super fast and efficient, no more sharing the packed tram filled with skiers and riders, fogged up windows and nowhere to sit. I had a gondola all to myself both ways. Entering and exiting is so much faster than the Skyride and you're let out right at the top of Paper Trail and the trails to Cut and the runs down to Olympic Chair.

For tourists, the ride is not nearly as majestic and exciting. You are much lower than the Skyride, just a few feet off the ground at times, especially for the first half of the trip where it passes under the Skyride, hence little to no views until you're about 2/3 the way up, except for some corridor views of Cap Lake, there's also no staff making announcements about the views, attractions and dining.

Hence, it's really for skiers so I'm wondering if Grouse will use the Skyride more often during the tourist season as I'm sure summer visitors, familiar with the Skyride experience, will be disappointed with the overall experience of the new gondola.

I ride this all of the time after hiking up the BCMC Trail. It's really disappointing to see how scratched up the windows are already, which definitely makes trying to take pictures and video challenging. Nothing beats the experience you get in the Red Skyride. The views dont even compare.

I haven't ridden the new ride yet, but the old one could be majestic, but also very crowded and slow. Can't wait to try the new ride.

Yeah, forgot to mention the scratched up windows, quite a shame actually and really starting to effect the views. Sea to Sky Gondola doesn't have that problem as people aren't hauling ski equipment into the small cabins.

At Blackcomb, aren't there rack outside the gondola cabin for skis?
Couldn't they do that here too?

King Taps in the Lonsdale Quay might open in April?

My favourite mystery, the row of food stalls in Lonsdale quay, STILL isn't open. I think this is year 4 - anyone heard anything?

Would be slick if they had a grand opening with King Taps and all those food stall places as well that make the Quay into a nice little spot

I'm thinking May as they haven't sent out an email yet with soft/hard opening dates and that needs at least 1-2 weeks notice (they did a gift card giveaway for the Willowbrook location that opened last week, so they need some time to build promotional hype). They started hiring in March so it really can't be too far away though.

And yes, the Lonsdale stalls + food hall reno is ridiculous.

They were hiring cooks a month ago. They started hiring for Langley around November (?)

They took away our fish monger, beef teriyaki, poke, and fish and chips and replaced it with boarding with really bad puns on them and it's been like 4 years !! The few handful of places that had decent priced food after getting off the seabus from work before walking up the hill to get home

Thats the real mystery here, not another opening of yet another but welcome Tap & Barrel or Joeys type joint. Between the fantastic Brewery district and these larger beer focused restaurant we must be setting some Guinness Book of World Record on population density and alcohol quantity

There has to be some inside baseball on the food stalls

It's like insane, a fascinating mystery. Imagine saying you want to open a no seating franchise like place thats 200 square feet, is just taking over existing food making stalls with all the equipment, and you are told it going to take like half a decade to open

How? Why?

Meet a bad contractor and voila. There's no decently priced food anywhere these days so you might as well just walk home and cook dinner at home.
