Drivers should expect delays if they’re heading south along Highway 99 through Richmond on Wednesday.

There was a dump truck going WB on the SFPR with an elevated bed. Fortunately it didn't hit any overpasses but you really wonder how the hell that happens.

There's no hyperbole when you say the driving out there have gotten significantly worse since the 2010's and much of that is due to reasons you cannot speak about.

They are supposed to have warning systems installed

I know overpass strikes is the hot topic right now, but can we talk a little bit about the Oak Street Bridge area? Ya ya, I know, its been bad for a long, long time (I grew up in Port Moody, lived in the GVRD until 2006, and it was atrocious then), but come on, something has got to give on this... I experienced a total clusterf*ck of congestion today, trying to get to the Tsawassen Ferry terminal to make the 7pm ferry. I left UBC at 5:00pm, and did not make my reservation cutoff (fortunately the 7pm was not full today). Enroute, I was witness to no less than four *bad* driver events, including someone making a very aggressive left turn across the 3 southbound lanes on Oak Street, basically forcing his turn movement through moving traffic (!)

Anyways, I imagine I'm going to get flamed one way or another for making such as obvious complaint about something thats been F*cked for decades, but why oh why can we not do something about this problem, at least for southbound traffic? I know the CoV has had a 'no new lanes' into the city policy for decades but isn't the Sim City regime, I mean when has there been a better political presence in council to do something about this?

The Marpole / Oak street bridgehead needs to be unf*cked.

End rant.

I've also been stuck in this mess going over Arthur Laing bridge many times. There have been days it has taken me 40 mins to get from Yukon street to the bridge which is insane; it's 1.5 km. Last week, 90 minutes to drive about 15 km from office to home when I had to go in. Only other choice is Knight Street Bridge and that one is very congested as well.

I believe it's mostly, because of the construction in the Oak Street area and I saw a new sign indicating that lanes on Oak Street Bridge were going to be impacted until March 31 which means many people will go to Arthur Laing or Knight St Bridge to avoid Oak.

This has been worse the past week because of the resumption of road work at Oak and 70th. Supposed to be going on until the end of the month.

City to trial one-way vehicle circulation on Canada Place for peak cruise ship season

To improve pedestrian safety and better manage the growing volume of vehicle traffic on one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares, the City is testing one-way vehicle circulation on Canada Place between Howe and Burrard streets from mid-April to December 2025.
The pilot will begin ahead of the peak spring/summer cruise ship season, which annually sees upwards of 1.2 million passenger visits to Vancouver boarding more than 300 cruise ships.

With the conversion from two-way vehicle circulation to one-way, we anticipate:

A reduction in the number of conflict points between pedestrians and vehicles in the area
Improved safety for passengers entering and exiting the Canada Place cruise ship terminal
Improvements to vehicle circulation for tour buses, taxis, and other vehicles entering and exiting the area
Motorists can enter the new one-way zone via Howe Street, exiting at Burrard or Thurlow Street.

It'll be interesting to see how long term the changes to Pacific to accommodate the longer 23 bus will work out. With a single east bound lane for most of Pacific it seems to be bunching traffic from Burrard.

Police investigating overpass strike on Highway 1 in Langley

The BC Highway Patrol says it is investigating reports of a Wednesday morning overpass strike in Langley.

Cpl. Michael McLaughlin says just before 8 a.m., a caller reported to police that a box truck had hit the CP Rail overpass along Highway 1 westbound, just after 232 Street.

“The damage to the overpass appears to be minor. It is hard to distinguish today’s damage from multiple past overpass strikes at this same location,” said McLaughlin, adding the truck was actually a flatbed with a large load.

... and you can also see the freshly laid sidewalk and Evo lot driveway on the south side.
The access directly from the alley was fenced off, so access is only from Georgia now.

Georgia Street eastbound from about Granville could sure use a complete resurfacing. That's one beaten up section of road with some rather noticeable potholes created by poor refills where trenching has been done.

I assume they were waiting for the last few utility trenches to be finished before they repaved everything. There's a giant dip in the road heading west forming on West Georgia before you enter the causeway at Stanley Park as well.

They said the bus pad needs three days after pouring to cure. Translink said the bus stop re-opens on April 24.

Quote:
1. THE BUS SLAB SHOULD BE INSTALLED AS A CONTINUOUS POUR. IF THE BUS SLAB IS INSTALLED IN NO MORE THAN TWO
SEPARATE POURS, THEN THE EDGE OF THE POUR MUST BE KEYED OR REBAR INSERTS USED TO TIE BOTH PADS
TOGETHER.
2. ALL CUT JOINTS ARE TO RUN PERPENDICULAR TO THE CURB. THE CUT JOINTS MUST RUN FROM OUTSIDE EDGE OF BUS
SLAB TO BACK OF INTEGRAL CURB.
3. CUT JOINTS SHOULD BE SAWED INTO THE BUS SLAB WITHIN 24 HOURS AFTER THE POUR TO MINIMIZE ANY CRACKING.
4. BUS SLABS THAT CONTAIN MAINTENANCE HOLES, CATCH BASINS, VALVE BOXES, CHAMBERS OR OTHER UTILITY COVERS
MUST HAVE CONTROL CUT JOINTS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE UTILITY COVER.
5. CUT JOINTS MUST MAINTAIN EQUAL DISTANCE OF 3.0m-4.5m FROM ANY CONSTANTS (I.E., MAINTENANCE HOLE, CATCH
BASIN, VALVE BOX, CHAMBERS) WITHIN THE BUS SLAB.
6. INTERNAL VIBRATOR OR POWER SCREED SHALL BE USED WHEREVER PRACTICABLE TO CONSOLIDATE THE CONCRETE.
ANY OTHER CONSOLIDATION METHODS MUST BE APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER PRIOR TO THE CONCRETE POUR.
7. CONCRETE MIX:
A) CITY MIX NO. 1503 OR EQUIVALENT MIX APPROVED BY THE CITY CAN BE USED AS LONG AS NO TRAFFIC OR WEIGHT
LOAD IS PUT ON THE BUS SLAB FOR 3 DAYS AFTER POUR.
B) STRENGTH OF 20MPa IN 24 HRS OR EQUIVALENT MIX APPROVED BY THE CITY CAN BE USED AS LONG AS NO TRAFFIC
OR WEIGHT LOAD IS PUT ON THE BUS SLAB FOR 24 HOURS AFTER POUR.
C) NO CHLORIDE BASED ADDITIVES SHALL BE USED IN CONCRETE SLAB WITH EMBEDDED STEEL.

8. USE 15mm REBAR WITH MINIMUM 75mm COVER.
9. PLACE REBAR MAT AT 150mm BELOW TOP OF CONCRETE.
10. PLACE REBAR IN A 600mm X 600mm GRID.
11. MILL AND RE-CONTOUR AC TO MATCH CONCRETE BUS SLAB CROSS FALL.
