Wow. Pink stucco and pink concrete.

And inaccurately thin columns supporting it on the exterior.
Definitely screams "we want our building to look unique and stand out, but don't really want to pay for it so throw some red food colouring into the concrete mix and add mental asylum bubble wrap to the exterior."

Colour will look vibrant for approximately 1 year after construction, then look faded and cheap for next 100+ years.

I'd be happier with less gimmick, and more brick. Does that one have scaffolding permanently attached?

This one almost looks like it's trying to borrow some design elements from KING Toronto currently under construction (with the added pink main floor on stilts ).

I just don't think we'll get high end glass blocks as finishing material here though...

Ya the pink house definitely wins the designation of most likely to be refinished within 5 years and most likely to be demo’d before its structural lifespan. But in the beginning it will be cool. The interesting architecture is one of the reasons for tourists and suburbanites to visit Railside, along with things like public art and outdoor performances. The development needs to be unique, edgy and interesting, otherwise it’s just a retail experience—Which I don’t think is enough of a draw for this whole development to be successful.

I would take the Moorish building in the other thread over this any day. Love that one. Why didn't they go with architectural themes that match the CMHR. That would have been fun.

An African style building with an Abuntu architectural theme.

A couple of postmodern, a brutalist... Nordic...

I think the corrugated steel box with the cut out entrance is the most offensive of the lot. Swap the entrance out for a roll-up door and you've got a machine shed.

Hey Wpg_Guy, thanks for posting all these renderings. Can I ask where are you finding them? I can find the variance applications on the City of Winnipeg website but don't see a link to any renderings.

Also, are you able to find renderings from the variance application for 44 Israel Asper Way that was submitted last September?

I honestly don't mind these.

Is there still plans to develop the other parking lot as well or will it just be these 8ish buildings for the time being?

My biggest problem with the bubble wrap building is all the pink is gonna look like dingy chewed bubblegum after the first winter, unless the tenants take it upon themselves to pressure wash it quarterly.

Lexan panels, a brand of polycarbonate resin thermoplastic known for its high impact resistance, clarity, and durability. It’s often used as a lightweight, shatter-resistant alternative to glass in applications like windows, skylights, greenhouses, safety shields, and signage. Lexan panels are UV-resistant, weather-tolerant, and can be clear or tinted, with thicknesses ranging from thin films to thick sheets. They’re also moldable and machinable, making them versatile for construction

ha ha, no defence.

I think of the barbie house as a bit of a pavilion....it adds some whimsy to the site.

It sits beside the building I'm doing which is the exact opposite...all yellow brick....heavy, permanent.....its definitely going to stand out in this group.

the issue is that if all the buildings are 7 Storeys, they have to be further apart because the lanes and courtyards would be dark canyons....where sun needs to get to courtyards, buildings are lower. To the north they are taller.

Its trying to achieve an attractive pedestrian quality, not just density.

It will remain parking until the next phase...that's the plan for the whole site....march northward.

Okay, that's actually not that bad. The exterior reminds me of a bit like the apartment blocks you would see in The Maples that were built around the 70's and 80's.

That floor plan though... oh boy... if I were a quadrilateral enthusiast, I'd go insane!

The trapezoidal enthusiasts would love it though.

I may have posted this before, but I wish someone had the foresight to see decades into the future and save these three old heritage buildings that used to be on the north parcel of the forks. They would've been great with this whole European square idea.
