Honestly, this made me smirk. The word has so quickly become a meaningless attempt at a burning epithet that I can't help but feel a sense of pity. It's like what one feels for a child having a tantrum and calling people "poopy-heads". A bit funny, but also wishing the child would start to grow up.

I am not really sure why you would need the magic floating walkway ring when the intersection/plaza is open to pedestrians.

That's what we can use the old circus for, Cars! Some of the excavations work is already done. It is a great idea to put the cars underground, IMO.

Why did they paint the ceiling of the sistine chapel when you'd have to look up to see it? Why did they build giant pyramids to house the dead when a hole in the ground was sufficient? Why did thy build a supersonic passenger jet when it was cost prohibitive and not profitable? Why did VW build the Bugatti Veyron for billions and lose money on everyone sold? Because its rad!

If the underground circus is being closed, this would be the way to keep everything connected to the skywalk system. Otherwise everyone is exiting at Winnipeg Square now.

I'm not saying that's necessarily bad or that we need the above ground circus, but closing the underground one would remove skywalk access to 201 Portage and its parkade, Electric Railway Chambers, BMO/MMF/Bell, Richardson/Fairmont/Tetratech (and their parkades) and the Grain Exchange building. That is a LOT of workers and building owners losing access to the network that may not all be too pleased.

As a bit of an aside, I was in the Millennium Centre this week. Its basement is connected to all the buildings on that block, as it used to supply heat to all of them until a few decades ago when they were all on steam. Seems like they could probably connect all those buildings to the main underground if there was a desire also haha.

This is where the City had leverage to make them pay for it.

The city still has that leverage. They can just say "we're closing it" and if all the building owners want it to remain open, they can pay.

Thanks for sharing. They pulled the hoarding off that first zone now and it's all exposed. Looks like a lot of the work is done. All of the concrete I assume.

Probably not. But that's just me guessing. This is just like the quick fix mostly for the transit implementation. The major overhaul is still to come, likely to coincide with what they plan to do with rapid transit.
