I think the people who are wavering should vote Conservative, if only to try and ensure a Liberal minority government.

The misguided green virtue signaling isn't going to go away, that is part of their DNA. I hope I am remembering this correctly because I keep using it but 87% of Justin's people are still around including that creepy Guilbeault. Right wing populism like many movements of that type will have a short shelf life. Like I've said before it dies with Trump (his political career not his life)

As far as the polls tightening up, only the CBC tracker put the LPC at over 200. 338 has been consistently in the mid 190's and is still there. So the "tightening" seems to be CBC and 338 converging. 190's still seems optimistic, and we'll see how the debates go and such.

But a 180's majority certainly seems to be in the realm of reason at the moment.

I've already voted for the LPC candidate in my riding, so I hope I don't regret that decision, however actions like this (plus the second f'up in Mkhm-Unvle) are making me feel like it may be 2004 all over again. Except this time instead of getting Mr. Dithers, we get a JT2.0.

Fingers crossed that that is not the case ...

I think people should vote ABC and consider swingvote Canada to determine who their best candidate is to defeat a Conservative.

The Conservatives need a real leader. Not a mini, maple, timbit Trump who believes Canada is broken and that we are all stupid.

For ten years we have heard that we need more experience, more qualifications, someone who will be respected by other world leaders - now we have a choice for a candidate who is those things who was given one of the most difficult jobs in Canada (Bank of Canada Governor) during a very difficult period OR we can elect a rage-bating, paperboy with 20 years in parliament with not one senior portfolio responsibility assigned to him (by the same guy who hired the Bank of Canada Governor) - no Finance, no Foreign Affairs... nothing. Pretty clear...

And we want to elect all those people again because they're still around?

I care most about the leader - one has been there for 20 years with zero accomplishments.

The Felon may not be directly targeting Canada at the moment, but we're still caught in the splash damage. As is, he is heisenburging the Electronic tariffs. At the start of the weekend, he supposedly carved out an exception for iPhones and similar electronics; and by the end of the weekend its sounding like he's backing up on that carve out.

So expectations are still chaotic and unknown, fertile ground for Carney to hold support with, even if he doesn't have any fresh "America announces X% tariffs against $Canadian_Industry." bullet points.

Climate change is real.

We need ro make the effort to mitigate this slow motion disaster. I don't think our response should be punitive however, and, as such, I welcome the end of the consumer carbon tax. We should be using a carrot instead if a stick

Guilbeault is creepy and is a zealot. I agree with you there.

I hope you are right and that Maple MAGA right wing extremism will have a short shelf life but, by voting Conservative in the current election, you would only be encouraging the Maple MAGA movement. Better to give them a short sharp kick in the arse to let them know they have no home within a major mainstream Canadian political party. Let them skulk off with their tails between their legs back to the fringe PPC.

I want my old Progressive Conservative Party back...........

I agree with your second paragraph and disagree with the first.

Voting the 87 percenters back in will only strengthen the populist movement. The modern leftist doesn't moderate they double down and that will only serve to increase the animus. The Trudeau government helped give rise to the populist movement, had they been more centrist there would be no need for a right wing pushback.

Just because Carney is the leader doesn't mean these guys are having a coming to Jesus moment and changing a lifetime of ideology. Is Guilbeault going to be championing new pipelines?

I wouldn't mind having the old Liberal Party back either.

I certainly agree that the woke left wing performative virtue signalling social justice activist Liberal Party takeover of Justin Trudeau helped create the Maple MAGA movement.

A pox on both their houses!!!

I do think however that Mark Carney could mean a new direction for the Liberal party. In addition, I firmly believe that Carney is absolutely the right man at the right moment to deal with Donald Trump in this time of existential crisis for the Canadian nation state.

Carney should be given his chance. I am however constitutionally a conservative, and, all things being equal, will vote Conservative. These however are not normal times. If in four years there is no change in the fundamental direction of the Liberal Party, then he should be given the bums rush. Hopefully by that time PP will no longer be the leader of the Conservative Party.

Depends on how they govern, but yeah, I'm expecting something similar to JT, though without the wokest parts.

The LPC's pet Scheme of Great Landlord Enrichment is the easiest way to fix the economy at first sight (good numbers, just not when you take them per capita). I don't expect them to be able to resist it.

In four years, I wouldn't be surprised if the appetite for change is even higher (than now), as a result. A half-decent CPC leader in 2029 would likely win easily.

On Tout le Monde en Parle there was a stark contrast to the types of questions that were posed to both... I think Pierre got the easier ride.

I found Pierre's response on CBC defunding versus Radio Canada concerning...

I did find the one question to Pierre interesting about what Pierre is running this election - the more angry one or the more PM one. While his response was good, it could have been stronger.

A Liberal minority will be more left wing and certainly on climate depending on either the NDP or more likely the Bloc.

A Liberal Majority can see Carney tack to the centre and probably get replaced by a pro business Conservative centrist in 2029. My bets on Ford.

Same time period (April 11th-13th)

Mainstreet: CPC+2
Nanos: LPC+7
Liaison: LPC+6

Put into the seat map, Mainstreets result is a 178 LPC majority, Nanos is a 196 LPC majority and Liaison is a 190 LPC majority. Shows how inefficient the CPC's vote is.

Like Carney, Ford is a man of the moment and for both four years is a long time. I don't see either being as relevant then. I don't think people would look upon Ford's then French as kindly as they do Carney's now

I don't know how well she is faring as an MPP but someone like Caroline Mulroney might fit the bill by then. A centrist woman could do very well.

Considering Canadians don't seem to tolerate failing party leaders; especially in the Big 2 parties; I think it's a safe assumption that PP's leadership period is toast by the end of hte month, unless another miracle happens and changes the results of the election.

Who replaces him will be a big thing for determining the future of the party. Smart election watchers would see how the Liberals refocusing on the Centre seems to have reinvigorated them in the election, so a smart CPC leadership would similarly track to the centre, rediscovering their "Progressive Conservative" roots while trimming back their Reform roots.

Sadly, I suspect they may continue just doubling down on the Reform side instead, banking on Smith and Moe's "wins" in AB/SK + however they do in the Federal election. (And staying quiet on Ford's win in Ontario combined with his non-endorsement of PP this election)

Climate Change and economic fortification of Canada to guard against the felon next door are the two major challenges we have.

The Conservatives were always the cheerleader of strong trade with the US and tight economic integration. Mulroney and Harper were the strongest advocates and now know that they were misguided. It left us in a very difficult position. Disappointing the Liberals did not do more to protect us, however (using Carneys words) they are now stepping up with a robust response.

The Conservatives need to also revisit their entire strategy. They were all about free trade with the US. They need time to revisit their policies and come up with something new. The next four years will provide time to reflect.

Climate change is real. We still need to grow and benefit from the oil sector, however we need to go into that with eyes open that it is not forever. We need to be working on the plan for where we are once oil start to decline.

We also need to do our part to minimize our impact on the environment. We have been making progress on our per-capita emissions and we need to do more.

As a self proclaimed TV historian who is/was a lover of CBC history I can make a good case for defunding them. BTW my definition of defunding is a large cut in the amount of money they receive not getting rid of them altogether.

Apparently Carney has bribed them with a 150 million dollar increase. After the whole debacle around the bonuses they gave out without any resolution, I would say that is not a good thing to do.
