I thought we were known all over Canada for relentlessly dumping on ourselves.

Lots of sound and fury being expressed over this, and I guess part of that's a function of a public forum. Personally I'd prefer fancier streetlights as well, but the money's just not there, and IMO, as always, that's the core issue. Winnipeg is a less affluent city than others. For some people being "less affluent" is entirely a result of the stupidity or laziness or weakness of it's people, and it becomes, in their minds a negative reflection on themselves.

They're just streetlights, people. I'd rather be known as the city that reduced homelessness than the city with nice streetlights.

There was less fuss made when the old original street lights were replaced a few years ago in River Heights. The streets there got the same style of light that is now going into the Exchange District.

^it would be nice if the main floor heritage facade of those buildings could be maintained because they are quite ornate and have a ton of character.

^ the plan on this one is to build over top of the existing buildings - so it all gets left in place.

Full brick facades on the street fronting sides. This one has been back and forth with Heritage for months. I believe it also includes Maws garage.

Wow great news, can’t wait to see renderings of this project! We get density + maintain the character at street level. Win all around.

I still remember when this was still an Old Spaghetti Factory. It's a pretty popular spot for events. I wonder where the current business owners will move all their events.

Is this part of the rumoured Maw Garage project, or is this something different?

Oh wow I wish this building still existed in its four storey form; all those arches are really beautiful. But at least the main floor was saved, and now being repurposed.

It's wild how many historic buildings changed height over time. Additions, additions on additions, and subtractions in this case.

I imagine they'd just move locations. Their events make too much money to not find another venue.
