Looks like they're still putting full finding together, but the plan is for a $ 102 million presence in the downtown. No details on the location but it seems to indicate a new building of some kind in the exchange?

IIRC the other grain lab is closing and this is replacing it.

Those renderings look nice! But honestly, local renderings should have a "winnipeg" filter applied to we can see what the actual end product would look like. This means:
- Removing people walking on the sidewalk or biking (especially professional well dressed people)
- Remove glass wall/curtain from the building, replace with tiny window and concrete exterior
- Remove people standing on balconies
- Remove foliage/trees
- Replace nicely-paved asphalt road with broke up concrete street that resembles the surface of the moon

That last part is pretty accurate. When they finished the 2nd phase of the pump house apartments and removed the crane, they just filled the street with gravel and shotty asphalt patches. Of course it never stuck, and it literally looks like moon craters on Amy Street

Nice to see another lot in the area getting filled. With cool architecture at that. I always hated how the exchange districted felt like it abruptly ended in that area and turned into parking lot wasteland. But with this building, the richardson research bulding across the street, and the apartment conversion/addition on portage, this corner of downtown is really transforming. Still a few lots to go!

Biff, do you know if this will fill the whole lot as far south as Portage Ave E?…or does it only cover the north half?

Sorry to change the subject, but I came across this image I made a couple of years ago and thought it might be more appropriate now (...Viking?). Where do you think a 50 storey building would look best in Winnipeg's skyline?

The Westbrook/Lombard location IMO. But the new GATE facility is proposed for there. That general area though.

I know development is all about making money and everything has to work, but I can't believe there have been no high-rise developers climbing over each other to try and develop the Portage E/Westbrook area and the east side of south Main. Reason being that you could put up a building that would have essentially lifetime eastern views of the rivers and The Forks. I would think that would be a great selling point for tenants.

There are very few places in cities where you could be immune to at some point have a building built that could block your views, but these locations could be where that wouldn't happen.

Just curious.

Why not all three? Lol love the look those create in the skyline. I remember a while back I messed around with some fantasy builds, I’ll see if I can find em.
