Great shot! I love these pics of skylines from really far away. This one made me think of that one shot of Chicago that went a bit viral.

I took a bike ride to Samuel Smith park in New Toronto last summer expecting to see such a view... but it happened to be one of the only foggy days of the year. My luck, coming from one of the foggiest cities in Canada. Next time...

As the photos amply demonstrate, there are rivers, and then there is the Fleuve St. Laurent. That, friends and neighbours, is a river.

There aren't many cities of Montreal's size that are on a wider, more-voluminous river.

The cities on the Yangtze like Wuhan and Nanjing come to mind. And Kinshasa/Brazzaville. That's all I can think of. There are, of course, smaller cities on bigger rivers like New Orleans or Manaus, and then there are bigger cities on big rivers that have already emptied out into sea, like Buenos Aires.

Also Detroit-Windsor, and places along the St. Claire river.
(I'm aware that there's dispute about whether those are rivers or part of a strait, so whatever)

I couldn't add anything on most voluminous rivers running through cities. Bigger ain't better from an observational point of view.

I like how slender some of the new tallest are in the skyline. Beig up hill from the river, they look taller than they actually are.

Yeah a huge river definitely comes with its pros and cons. Much costlier to build and maintain bridges across, but better for shipping and scenery.

Maybe. Although Lisbon's got 2.8 million in the metro. Montreal is pushing 4.5 million.
