Fair point, but that is not a Sifton problem, as DJ mentions that needs to happen from a much higher level. Housing all over is becoming unaffordable, I live in the Riverbend area for reference however I purchased 10+ years ago (and even then it was at the top of my budget). There is zero chance I would be able to afford the same house I am in on the market today (granted the bank would surely lend me the money which is a difference conversation entirely).

My point initially was these types of innovations and forward thinking are good, they hopefully spur other developers to consider similar amenities and making communities within new neighborhoods. I would love the ability for all levels of housing to have things within walking distance, that in time helps remove vehicle traffic and promotes a more healthy lifestyle.

They have landed the the 7th floor precast concrete floor slabs in the 8s Candela building. Up next will be forming for the 7th floor elevator/stairwell shaft walls and installing the structural steel posts for the 7th and 8th floor.

They have landed the 8th floor precast concrete floor slabs now in the Candela 8s building. Up next will be forming the elevator/stairwell concrete walls for the 8th floor. The 6s Specktra building continues to get exterior brick installed.

They have now installed about 75% of the precast concrete slabs for the roof on the south end of the 8s Candela building. They also have some of the window modules installed upto the 4th floor level. The 6s Specktra building has most of the exterior brick now installed on the north side as they continue to work on the exterior insulation for the south side.

The 8s story Candela building now has the mechanical penthouse concrete walls poured for the elevator and stairwell shafts. Exterior wall sheeting is up to the 7th floor and some of the window modules are installed up to the 4th floor level.

Yet another tower crane has been removed with Sifton taking down the crane for their 8s Candela building. They have setup the exterior construction elevator on the east side and have a number of hydraulic lift scaffolds setup for the install of the exterior brick which is moving along on the east side. The 6s Spektra building is still getting exterior work done and doesn't appear to have any drywall as of yet on the interior finishing. Some more tenants are finally starting to move into the new retail buildings at the River Bend entrance with final drywall now going into the new Massey Indian restaurant and a couple of more units now leased in the other building.

The downtown core is a lost cause. Over 30+ years of effort by the city have not restored the core to the heyday it had back in the Sixties and Seventies.

Might as well bulldoze everything and turn it all into a giant park. Then the druggies and the homeless will have a nice place to set up a tent city.

Still working on the exterior of the 6s Spektra building and interior drywall and painting almost done. The 8s Candela building has seen no work on the west side wall exterior finishing.

Looks like the 6s Spektra building is finally wrapping up the exterior work. They have started pouring the sidewalks and driveway curbs around this building including a circle drive on the south side. The 8s Candela building now has hydraulic lifts for the exterior brick installation setup on the west side.

Very interesting, according to the West 5 website, the Candela building will now be a rental, rather than condos.

Not surprised at all as the new build condo market has been dead for a couple of years now. The 29s north tower of Centro was going to originally be a condo tower and is now a rental. Tricar has not started tower 3 or 4 in their Northlink site on Sunningdale Rd because of this and their Westdell Borne 4s buildings are still mostly unsold.

A site-plan application was filed today for the next building to be constructed as part of the West 5 development.

This will be a 9-storey mixed-use apartment building.

There are no renderings or map details so I can't confirm what exactly it will look like or even where exactly it be. It has an address of 1912 Linkway Boulevard... which according to the City map is the entire large parcel of land north of Linkway between Riverbend Road and Logans Run... though if I had to guess, the building will likely be right at the north-east corner of Riverbend and Linkway (right across from the new park) as that spot is marked as "Coming Soon" on West 5's official map

Will be interesting to see the vacancy rate and monthly rents for the two new buildings here this year. The Spektra building must be seeing the first tenants now and the Candela building is still getting the exterior and interior work. The new build condo market and SFH market is really bad now and this can be seen at the numerous neighbourhoods Sifton is planning in and around the London area that have next to nothing happening in the way of construction activity.

Interesting, I would assume the same location as that was listed as "coming soon" on their website map last time I looked. I thought it was supposed to be the same height as the Helio building initially, which maybe it still is at 9 stories depending on the floor heights, etc.

Sort of surprised they would not opt to build on the North West corner first as that would complete that block along with the Spektra / Candela buildings

Lots already living in the Spektra based on what I see driving by, they converted these to rentals if I recall due to the condo market?

Very little progress on the exterior of the west side of the Candela building for some reason. Not sure why they aren't busy finishing the west side.

Sifton is still working on the exterior finishing of the 8s Candela building after all this time.
