I never get tired, either. I remember how many of us, at the time it was completed, thought that the top was still incomplete and some sort of cladding was still in the works. The beam structure ended up looking very cool, especially at night.

I bet in 50 or 100 years the design will be a classic beauty while many of the newer "glass tower" Supertalls will not be looked upon as in the same league.

Almost ironic that it sits next to what must be the ugliest skyscraper in ATL and also was almost the most infamous. Can anyone even imagine razing The beautiful Fox for that monstrosity.

I really like that design actually but the Tower Square signs are awful. Square logo printed on a circle and no text to fill that empty space next to it

To Bellsouth Tower's credit, it is arguably the most transit-friendly building in the city given its integration into the North Ave. station.

While I wouldn't say its my favorite building in the city, Bell South Tower/AT&T Tower/Tower Square is far from ugly. I think its a good example of high-rise Midcentury Modernism, and contrasts well with the more elaborate and ornamental design of Bank of America Plaza and the Fox Theater. (It would have been an absolute travesty if the Fox had been lost, though.)

Yeah, i personally like the bellsouth tower. Wish it still had AT&T logo signage instead of that stupid TS sign. It looks amateurish.

I'm an optimist by nature, but I believe it will. Growing population in the city core and metro, and the easily buildable lots have been filling out consistently for 20 years now leaving which will make going taller more and more economical.

The rockefeller tower is no beauty, but it is tall and will be made with good materials. I think its a sign of the direction the city will increasingly go in midtown and hopefully downtown one day.

Sorry and a little OT but is ABOUT taking pictures of ATL.

[rant]A little rant on an experience (actually 2nd) I had Saturday (Apr12). Background, I’m a runner and live in Atlantic Station. I run all over the city and have taken 1000s of pictures from almost every location downtown, midtown, westside, GA Tech, eastside, Buckhead, etc. I post a lot of them here and know that I have no artistic value...but.....

History: A couple of years ago, I was taking a pic of the GP building. As I finished and put my iPhone back in my belt, I was approached by a security guard. I had music playing but heard something about “can’t take pictures of the building”. I just started back running and paid no attention.

Yesterday: I stopped to take off my gloves (oddly cold) and while standing there, I took a pic of Flatiron (beautiful building, even I can't totally mess up in a pic) and up Peachtree North. I was approached by security and basically given the same bull $hit [lots of paraphrasing to follow] telling me I can’t take pictures of their private building (100 Peachtree). I said as long as I wasn’t breaking the law, I’d do what the hell I wanted. He then said it was building policy that no one could take pictures of the building. I then flew hot and my language became colorful. I told him I was on a public sidewalk and I didn’t give one F about his building’s policies and it meant NOTHING to me. He then threatened to call APD and I begged him to do it. This went back and forth with me giving him profanity hell and informing that he didn’t have any authority past the property line and 0 on public property. He was very professional and polite and of course just doing what he was told to do, so I do feel a little bad for the profanity I hurled but he was the representative.

So WTF do these building owners think they are doing harassing people that way? Obviously, they are doing this to tourist also and how does that make them feel at ATL? Sorry but just had to rant.

I know there are some laws that restrict how you use photos of buildings that depend on a lot of factors like when they were built. I don't know of any that prevent you from taking them as long as you're on public property. Worth noting it's easy to step onto private property without realizing it. Sidewalks and plazas are often wider than the public right-of-way.

I've had security come after me a time or two for the same thing, but not in many years. Crazy that's still a thing these days with the ubiquity of CCTV, phones, dash cams, street view ... everything and everyone in public is being photographed constantly

Policies against it are mostly for security. I'd guess any "harassment" you experienced (like the threat to call APD) was mostly because you were being an 🞵🞵🞵. Just ignore them next time.

I get a lot of similar reactions for the work that I do, which is commercial real estate property condition assessments. My favorite is when tenants get all in a tizzy when I'm taking pictures and ask me to stop and I get to tell them basically to go jump in a lake; I'm on the property taking pictures at the direction of THEIR landlord.

It used to happen to me all the time but it's been several years since I've been hassled. Either security guards have gotten lazier, my cell phone doesn't attract as much attention as the camera or they realize how ridiculous it is to restrict photo taking.
In the past:
I've been told the GA Pacific building's design was 'copyrighted' so I wasn't allowed to take photos.
When taking photos of the I.M. Pei's Wildwood office complex, it took a security guard 10 minutes to get out to where I was standing. He had the same "can't take pictures of the building" but like all the others, had no clue why not.
I also had security come racing out of the (formerly) Bellsouth Tower even though I was just walking by with my camera.
I had always been polite since I knew they were just doing their job but I'm much more of a curmudgeon now and am not sure I would deal with the lack of a reasonable explanation as well as I used to.

That is the problem. What the HELL is The POINT because there is NO reasonable explanation? If I owned a building (probably be an outhouse) I'd LOVE for people to admire and take pictures of it. How is that a negative? These building owners have some type of wacky control the world mentality going on. Seems like they would have enough collective intelligence to understand that what they are attempting is unconstitutional and NOT possible in the US. It might work in China, but seems you can see pictures of about any building there too.

Awful pic of the day.
OTish: Out running this morning and came up on a horrific accident (most have probably heard by now) at Piedmont Avenue and Monroe Drive. Just a few minutes earlier and I would have been standing on the other side of that pole waiting on a Walk light. Looks like the car was driving at a high rate of speed and hit the truck pushing it into the pole.

Actually it was the driver of the car and would have happened if they had access to a Camry or a Cadillac.

The average Tesla driver is much dumber than the average Toyota driver (and probably the average GM driver, too).

How often do you see a Camry drag racing or pretending the car can drive itself and then crash horribly?
