Nice! I don't know Moncton extremely well so it's a good visual representation of where some things are in relation to others.

I noticed that before, it seems very small for a development! What they could do is safe the space near Tannery corner of Main and Vaughn for maybe a park with a nice large sculpture or art work. Then build on the main Stret facing portion where they currently bought the buildings behind

That's exactly what I thought too. Some nice trees and benches where you could sit and have a coffee. They could even do some decorative lighting for the evenings. Kind of give it an upscale vibe.

They'd still be able to construct a good sized building on the adjacent land. I'm not sure when we'll see the next phase, or even if it will be along Main Street. There are other places for buildings in this overall development.

It's too bad that the Robinson Street parking lot didn't get developed. The city purchased it back from Galco last summer, and their intention was to issue a request for proposals for the purchase & sale of the property to another developer. It's a great downtown location that if developed, would erase another surface parking lot eyesore.

Just curious if anyone knows who owns 54 Waterloo street this is almost right beside the property where Seville property is building the 6 story apartment? The land sold back in 2021 and I don’t know how long ago they knocked the old house down but there is a piece of heavy machinery sitting on the site could this be a storage location for the ongoing construction site beside it or is it something new going to be built.

the new Obstetrics and Newborn Care Unit has been in the works since 2017 and will be opened sometime in April. The two-storey unit is at the north end of the hospital on MacBeath Avenue and will have its own entrance.

The new unit is spread over two floors and includes a reception area, an emergency treatment room for high-risk pregnancies, two elevators and a staircase, assessment rooms, labour and delivery rooms, two surgical rooms, neonatal intensive care unit, nursing stations, breastfeeding education, recovery rooms with washrooms, showers and bathtub. The unit also has hostels with beds where family members can stay, and there is a “butterfly” room where families who have experienced the loss of a newborn can have private time. There’s also a Trojan Trek lounge, which was funded by the Harrison Trimble High School Trojan Trek fundraiser.

The construction and commissioning of this new maternity wing has taken an interminable amount of time, but, in the end, we will have the best maternal/newborn facility in the Maritimes outside of the IWK. This will be a tertiary care referral centre for eastern NB, northern NS and for PEI.

18 beds may not seem like much, but the average stay for an uncomplicated delivery is only 1-2 days, so there is frequent turnover. In addition to the inpatient beds, there are birthing rooms, two ORs for emergency Caesarian sections, offices, clinics, a newborn nursery and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

The new cardiology centre at the Moncton Hospital is also under construction and is progressing at a faster rate than the maternity wing. This is also in a new building attached to the main hospital, but is being constructed in an old parking lot in the centre of the hospital complex therefore is nearly invisible to passers-by.

They were fresh out of nursing college when the project broke ground. I can't believe that project took longer than the Burj Khalifa... 3x longer than the London Shard... 6x longer than the Empire State Building...

And the answer is.......New Brunswick government bureaucrats and various government agencies/crown corporations.

Same reason it's taking seven years to do two years worth of refurbishment on the SJ Harbour Bridge......or why Pt Lepreau is the worst performing Candu reactor EVER.

You guys are hilarious, but this is clearly a typical government project with way too much oversight and bureaucracy. This has taken 2-3x as long as it should have.

A bureaucrat need bureaucracy to justify his job. The more difficult he makes a project, the more he can justify the need for his existence. It is a vicious cycle.

I understand the criticism regarding the length of time this project took. However, it's important to recognize that the health authority and hospital staff were understandably preoccupied with managing a global pandemic, which brought all construction activity to a standstill.

I have read on sign saying construction starts on 22nd April. Sign was near the point from where upgrades for pipeline in downtown is starting. There will be a huge traffic in that area.near wheeler and main intersection.

So, two forumers have come forward, both with information that a major development is in the works for the Steadman Street area.

What exactly do we know as of now:

This is the lot in question



- Homeowners on Steadman Street have been approached by a developer to sell their land to allow for a major project. Apparently a majority of owners have agreed.
- Sewage and infrastructure work may begin this year (perhaps in conjunction with the major work upcoming on East Main Street).
- The project timeline may take as long as five years (2030).
- The developer may be Nick Spataro (the developer behind FiveFive Queen).
- The building may be roughly twice the height of FiveFive Queen (so, in the 15-18 storey range).

I can believe that a project like this could belong to Spataro. I absolutely recall him saying at the time FiveFive was finishing up that he was open to doing another similar project elsewhere in downtown Moncton in the future. This block of land is only a block away from FiveFive Queen. Perfect location. Perfect synergy.

If this rumour is real, I can see a major mixed use development similar to FiveFive, only larger. It is on the NE corner of Main/Assumption at one of the most prominent intersections in the city. A signature development belongs here. I could see ground floor commercial/retail facing Main Street, and a tower with residential +/- hotel, just like FiveFive Queen.

I wonder why the 5 year timeline? A lot of things can happen in 5 years. Could it be multiple buildings?

Now, if they can turn the old RCMP building into something similar, that could be quite the intersection as you enter downtown.

There are rumours out there that a low rise residential project is planned for the old RCMP HQ location, but, I think this would be a waste.

I agree. Another 18-20 storey tower here would make a real statement upon entering the eastern gateway to the downtown core.

As for the possibility that the Steadman Street project could encompass two buildings rather than one - this is certainly possible. We only have the barest second hand information to talk about.
